Huge milestone today, I am 12 weeks post op! Start back at work next week doing nights. I have still got an obvious limp though, no pain, just a limp. Anyone else still limping at 12 weeks? X

    Hi Rachel,

My limp is almost gone.  I am mentally putting my operated side down,  heel first, straight forward, then consciously on ball of foot, slowly, head and back straight. If I rush it, I limp, same on stairs.  I am 11 weeks on and very pleased with everything. Consultant delighted...

hi rachel ... still limping at 15 weeks post-op - other hip needs THR too so that is not helping too much .....and I was limping badly prior surgery .. what Olive says is true for me too - when I pay attention to how I put my foot down, making sure my head and back are straight (relaxed) I do a lot better -- but I am not so patient so it is the duck, penguin, toddler wobble right now ...

You are doing great !! going back to work in 2 weeks too ... are you feeling okay with that ?

Take care of rachel and keep cool

      Hi Renee,

I have to go back as the money has run out! I work nights as a veterinary nurse so it will be tough as they are 13 hour shifts but I have been lifting and twisting as I have 2 young children. I also think that I have to try it at some point. I think that my hip will get tired as I won't sleep for 24 hours but hopefully all will be OK.x

I'm 13wks now and I still limp esp for the first few steps taken after sitting. If I'm walking any distance j start off well then start limping after 10mins so still using 1stick when I'm doing lots of walking. I'm back to work beg Aug as a Midwife so giving myself extra time to really make sure I'm fit.

I am six weeks post op and the physiotherapist at the hospital identified that a had a limp in the first week. I have had a referral for further physio which seems to be helping. Essentially I have to do more exercises. My limp seems to have arisen because I was limping for so long before the op and have underlying muscle weakness. It may be worthy asking your GP for a physio referral if it is not improving.

Yes, Judy. This is what's happened to me. Over 8 years of hip pain, pre and post ops, my muscles are totally wasted. Physio actually said I have 'no bum'.

I've been given specialised exercise regime: it's challenging and can be painful, but I can tell it's paying off after just a couple of weeks.

      Good luck.

I am also at 12 weeks today and I also have a limp yet. Everybody tells me to be patient. I still have a spot of some hard swelling but nothing as drastic as OA pain!

    Continued good luck to you!

Thank you so much everyone, I have a great physio who has been once a week since the op. He assures me that I am doing fine. Xxx

    Hi Rachel

Your limp could either be a discrepany in leg length or just a habit from before your op, if it's the latter I would think this will disappear through time
