I have been refered to a gynacologist consultant and the appointment is tomorrow, anyone have any experience with these appointments. I dont like hospital as it is also have really bad anxiety and not knowing what there going to do isn't helping.

    Hello!

I had the same experience, after 3 years of pain I was offered a ultrasound to discover a 8cm cyst on my right ovary. I was then sent for a MRI to find it had grown to 12cm in a month. Went to my gyna appointment and they just feel your tummy and ask you questions so not a lot to worry about, they usually determined wether you need surgery or not there and then.

I has surgery on Wednesday to remove my cyst and am recovering well, I also have anxiety and suffer with panic attacks, just be sure to get all your questions answered and everything explained to have peace of mind, good luck!

Thank you, i'm hoping that they tell me there and then what the plan will be as i've had nothing but problems with my gp for about 12 months but the hospital have been amazing I was only refered for an ultrasound 3 weeks ago and have already been refered to a consultant so hoping this has got the ball rolling.

Yeah i have panic attacks too so have a feeling tomorrow is going to be a tricky day especially as i'm going to the appointment on my own as i'm at uni and my parents are 180 miles away!

You will be fine! I'm only 16 years of age and had to go through with the operation while suffering with panic attacks, to top it off mine got too big to do through keyhole so I had to go through full open surgery!

Mine was a dermoid cyst and was filled with solids so needed to be removed,

You will be okay, try not to think if the worst and just think of positives, easier said than done I know! Try taking something to suck on, I usually use fruit pastels and they really help to distract me and help my breathing

Thanks you've made me feel slightly better smile

I have no idea what mine is hopefully someone will have some answers tomorrow

I made the mistae of googling what will happen and as usual its all worst case scenario, so hoping its just watch and wait.

Taking sweets seems a good idea, I tried to convince my house mate to come with me (just for someone to take my mind of it in the waiting room really) but as my appointment is at half 9 in the morning, apparantly all students want to be asleep at that time of day haha

    Hello!!

Yes we have all been down that road. Please try now to worry. Just relax.

I am 2 weeks out today from ovary and tube removal. Sounds scary but I assure you it's not.

If you cave a cyst they are just referring you to a Dr for options and to go over your scan again. They may do a vaginal sono to get a better look at your ovary's. We all get cyst from time to time. The mostly go away without you knowing you had them. So they will put you on meds (usually birth control) or they will see about draining it which is a day surgery procedure. Or they will have to do a laparoscopy procedure. They do 3 small incisions 1 in your belly button, and 2 at your hair line and remove one or both. The procedure is also day surgery. And a very speedy recovery. About 4 days of really sofa time. Then slow and easy for a few days.

    Hi

im in a very similar situation at the minute, I was diagnosed with dermoid cysts on both of my ovaries found at the end of February.

My recent ly had my 1st gyn appoinment I had to have another scan internally to have another look at the cysts, then a chat with the consultant about what she suggests to do. One cyst is quite large she may have to remove that ovary and try saving the other as I am only 34yrs old unfortunately I am having to have open surgery for this.

While at my appoinment I had routine bloods tests taken which I got the results for a few days later.  I have been put on a list now for surgery and am waiting for a date.

I understand your anxiety I haven't been good through this whole process but the consultants and nurses are very supportive and if you mention your anxiety to them they can talk you through things better, I made the mistake of not writing down questions and so left the appoinment without any clear direction, and found myself googling on internet which can be a Hugh mistake when you suffer with anxiety, I would suggest making notes on  paper as reminder.

At the time of appointment I was very anxious but can see now that I am that little bit further forward, try not to worry to much.

Thank you for the reassurance smile My main concern is that i'll either forget everything that is said in the appt. I'm hoping that they just want to keep an eye on it but my gp thinks it will need to be removed because of the pain im in and the size of it

I know it's scary. But you won't forget. It won't let you forget. The cyst reminds you. It really isn't that scary. I know clinical settings can be. It's so stark and cold. But it's really going to be ok. The best think to do is to get it taken care of now. The longer you go the more it can harm it has a chance to do. If can rupture and cause real pain. And you don't want that.

Take it one day at a time. And you have found a support system here and you can ask us anything. We will be here for you.

Thank you I'm so glad I found this site. I've spent months and months being fobbed of by GPs who put the pain down to stress and my anxiety and the absent messed up periods down to stress so I'm glad I pretty much demanded to be seen by another doctor who referred me straight away

Keep looking for a Dr that listens to you. If they don't look you in the eye when you talk to them. Go to another. You health is top priority. You will find Dr's that think they are God. They put their pants on just the same way we do.

I am glad you found us too! Keep us posted❤️

Well the appointment was a complete waste of time. I was spoke to like a child and they ignored everything I said so apologies if this is lengthy but I need to rant sad

The nurse that called me for the appointment was lovely I explained to her that my anxiety levels were sky high (I had 45 minutes of waiting in the waiting room working myself up!) and she reassured me that it would all be fine and she would stay for the whole appointment and they wouldn't do anything I wasn't comfortable with

the doctor on the other hand was rude and seemed incapable of lisetening to me. She asked me a whole heap of questions which I answered and then she did an external exam (Felt my tummy) which hurt and she basically told me to stop being silly it shouldn't of hurt! She then pulled out a needle and I had a bit of a panic as she didn't warn me of any needles but the nurse calmed me down and explained everything that it was just for a blood test.

The doctor then annoounced that she was going to do an internal exam blah blah blah wow that hurt and I started paniking that something was wrong so she stopped and her response 'now as youve got yoursellf so sttressed I cannot do it'

All in all the cyst is still there but as it hasn't grown she wants to leave it where it is!!! Just to top it off she did my height and weight and told me I was too short and overweight (Which I didn't think I was!) so that topped it off

Sorry for the length of this but I was hoping for more of a solid plan of what were going to do instead i've come away in exactly the same position as before sad

      I am sorry Becky.

You need to see someone else. It's a waste of time, yes. But like I have said before. If they won't look you in the eye when they talk to you, they are not for you. There are just to many dr's that have the God syndrome.

As far as your anxiety goes, you can try taking a Benadryl before you go. Antihistamines can calm you but will make you sleepy.

The wait times are going to be long with every dr because it's a Specialist or your not an established patient. I know most women like women Dr's. But I refuse to go to a woman dr. They have the same plumbing but they don't always know what temperature to use! (Hahaha keeping it light)

My first female exam was a woman and I had told her i was a virgin at age 20 and she said "are you kidding me" and then proceeded to do the most violent pelvic exam I think she could muster. It sent me to the end of the table with a scream.

I am sorry to say the next dr office will probably take about the same time frame. But let's get you better and worry about time frame later. You need to get on line and look for dr in your area that accepts you insurance with good reviews.

And this page is for rants, tears, hugs, and support. So keep at it.

      Sending prayers

      Ginger
