I'm sorry this has persisted so long. You might consider changing Doctors.

I was diagnosed with pleural effusion/pneumonia. Since I still had rather persistent pain, all these months later, the Dr. realized I had also had a broken rib, which has mended but still hurts. I'd insist with the Dr. or see another one to get to the bottom of what is happening. Hope they figure it out soon.

Hi, after  intial examination by locum.iwas referred to a consultant who authorised a CT scan with the correct protocol for  lung abnormalities, this revealed  a loculated effusion at the base of the right lung  and,  areas of  scarring called  pleural plaques. these in themselves are  not  considered dangerous but indicative of exposure to asbestos some time in my lifespan. After a short period ,further scans showed  deterioration and Mesothelioma was suspected.  biopsies proved inconclusive particulaly as  high levels of protein were found in the fluids drawn off  from the effusion.. subsequently, a thorasic surgeon decided that  further biopsies be taken   ,this done, it was decided that the complete right viceral pleurabe  resected,,  this done,  it was discovered that although there was   considerable  thickening or the pleural membrane  no  cancerous cells were found..i have a nice scar   and some wound discomfort after two years of healing but..   im alive and working  so..  all in all    a good job  ..  moral of this story   keep away from toxic material  and     visit your doctor the moment you feel discomfort..  it might be nothing  .  conversely  it might be life threatening .   early intervention is critical

How are you feeling?? Any new updates? Mine is also only in my back. My biggest fear about this is that I'll never be the same in the gym. I hope you're feeling better.

Good luck to you, man. This January I will have had mine one year.

I've been to every specialist in the medical community. I'm very healthy. The pleurisy just won't go away. I also changed primary doctors twice because I feel they were only wanting to placate me with drugs as opposed to curing me.

Unfortunately mine is terribly painful. I am an avid backpacker- having sumitted over a dozen mountains in 2013. This year not one.

The only thing that helps, besides morphine, is acupuncture and the cold. You should look into acupuncture, it really helps me, and being that you'd isn't terribly painful you should find relief and possibly cure.

Still no change, something defo went on when a had this plueral effision, chest lungs just not the same I do get wheezy like a sort of breathless specialy after any type of excercise, started to feel the odd twinch in my left lung now . Awaiting a mri scan as don't want anymore radication, docs don't seem to have any idea what's happening, but it's seems to be getting slightly worse with feelings in the left side now, constantly on my mind .. Getting scared this could be cancer, it's like my lungs are swollen, just wish I can get to the bottom of this

Hi  martynI can identify with the sensations you feel  when you exercise,   heaviness  when you try to expand your lungs  and  a   certain tightness  particulaly after exertion. however  i visited the Consultant on the 18th and he advised me that over the year nothing had changed  so, at least i learned that  bronchiectasis can be controlled  and even  reduced in its effects  by careful management. the damage from asbestosis is irreversable  and im stuck with it  but i can still lead a relatively normal life..  I suspect that if you  are having rubbing sensations   between lung and pleura    this is because the pleura has become   thickened and  is creating friction   between  what should be smooth surfaces   my pleural thickening was discovered by ultrasound  and an MRI   programmed with the correct protocol .  once the  pleura is damaged  by  fibrosis  then   it will be difficult to   maintain a decent level of respiratory comfort  although  some people have no  symptoms from pleural plaquingand lead a perfectly normal lifestyle   best wishes    for a good resolution

Now years on no change hospitals sort of given up, and so have I there has something happened to my right lower lung with no doubt, all after a camara put down my right lung , then a plural effusion, now left with this niggle deep pain when I exercise .. Fearing the worse as I get older now being 45 .. If it's scar tissue does that turn to cancer ??

I'm sorry to hear this has been ongoing. I feel for you.. sad I don't think scar tissue necessarily means cancer, but I will include you in my prayers and send healing vibes your way.
