Acute pancreatitis

I was on a lovely cruise during the last fortnight, but in the second week, I was diagnosed with this condition and had to seek help from the medical team on board. Of course, as this was an American ship, they know how to charge but I was insured and all I wanted was to be rid of this awful pain. I was was put on a morphine and other drips to quell the pain but this did not work so I was given even stronger pain killers wich eventually worked and after four days I felt better. However I was now so constipated that I had to have an enema and given a horrible tasting drink, which then meant I had to stay near a toilet. Then I started peeing bright yellow which I was told was from dehydration. I have now recovered and have paid the bill of 4k (US) so i hope my insurance compnay pay up. If anyone has information on why this started up so quickly I would be grateful. I was told it was due to alcohol abuse but It can't be that as I don't drink that much or gallstones, so I'm going to arrange for a colonoscopy to get it sorted.

Hansi i had pains in my right side for apt of years, lots of ultra scans nothing showing. Then about 18 months I was getting pains in my chest was sent straight for CT scan heart was fine but on scan it was showing scarring to my pancreas whereupon diagnosed with chronic pancrean, I was in the licensed trade for 20 years so drank alcohol almost daily. Not really had much alcohol in last 10 years but specialist it's the past years that could be the cause. Don't drink at all now.

Hope you get sorted out soon ,

    Good luck Kevin in UK

Sorry to hear about your pain, but remember you are not alone in this fight.  There are times where pancreatitis appears for no reason.  I can suggest that you refrain from all alcohol and eat a low fat dies with plenty of fruits and vegetables.  For your constipation try Magnesium Citrate.  It does not taste too bad and it is very effective.  Good luck to you anf God Bless.

I have just been discharged after a week in hospital, the diagnosis acute pancreatitis with a plan to have my gall bladder removed.

I had a spicy meal on the Saturday night and went to bed around 11.30.

I woke up Sunday morning with a headache like my head was about to explode.

I had severe vomiting throughout the day unable to even keep water down. I was taken to the out of hrs Dr at 4pm and by 4:45 I was in A&E connected to a drip and a catheter. I was moved to a surgical assessment unit and had hrly obs. Wed I had an ultrasound to confirm the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis.

I'm not a drinker either so to be told I had gall stones was a shock. I too was put on pain meds - morphine, paracetamol & codeine. I couldn't understand why it had developed so quickly and why I had been discharged while still in so much pain.

I'm now awaiting a MRI and a surgery date.
