Hi every one. I'm seeking your advice in this matter. After i found out I'm having fistula due to information i receive from this group according to the symptoms i have. I go to the public hospital inform the doctor what im experiencing and i suspect I'm having a fistula. They admit and the doctor inform me we don't know what you have so far but we will do a check up. The doctor advice me not to eat as they are going to do the operation, the time of the operation comes they do it i return back to my ward with some small bandage in my anus where i was having a cut of peri anal abscess incission. After a day they let me go home with paracetamol and tramadol pills. What confuses me as the doctor said they will do a check up no one informs me about the outcomes of check up instead i found out im having something in my bum that is hold by stiches when my wife check this operation what they done to me. We google this we find out they insert seton without my knowledge cause my understanding they are doing check up then after inform me whats going on. To the discharge letter they wrote what type of medication they gave me and i must do sitz bath, dressing and states my next appointment date. Here's my thing there was no communication through the process and on the healing period no advise what must i do what must i eat for diet as well there are other methods to deal with fistula that was never explained to me in order to make a choice. If you were me what would you do in the situation of this nature.

    Hello,

    How are you?

This is the first time I have seen this thread Zolani.

I don't know what to say to you. If they said they were going to check that is all they should do and then talk to you about what needs to happen.

I really hope you are getting better. Please when you feel better, it would be good to hear from you. Take care

Im not feeling better, what happens i was healing very well now when i go to the toilet the stool goes to the wound. When it goes to the wound is very painful and cause a puss. When i ask the surgeon what went wrong they said nothing to worry about may be im developing another fistula. They said i must come back on the 27 January 2017 to check there's no other fistula developing meaningly i must stay with this condition for 3 months. But thanx to the tramadol for easing my pain. After going to the toilet the feaces inside fall to the wound and become very very painful that's my condition now and bear in mind i must go to work. Luckily the job im doing its talking not heavy lifting that will worse. Can you please advise on that.

      Hi Zolani,

I had a seton the same as you and yes because there was a whole cut right through me when I had a bowel movement it would seep into the wound and drain out the other end but not as much as perhaps you are experiencing.

So this does affect the time it takes to heal and why it is so important to rinse the wound with water and regular sitzs baths as you are doing.

Do you know if it was a colorectal surgeon who did your surgery? If not I ask it is possible to see a colorectal surgeon. Colorectal surgeons specialise in the surgery you had.

I would contact them about this now to ask rather than wait until the date you are due to go back in January. You may need another operation in January if the wound has not yet healed so better to check about this now.

      Sending you good wishes Zolani.
