My 91 year old father has been diagnosed with this. He is in the middle of a bout of diarrhoea at the moment. Would his frequent diarrhoea stop the effectiveness of his other medication?

    Hi jen34776,

You are asking a very specific medical question of what is a  'lay-person' group.  you really should ask this question of your father's doctor.  Long term diarrhoea dehydrates the metabolism and causes too rapid throughput in the gut - which obviously reduces the uptake of medications and nutrients.  If it goes on - especially in the elderly - it is serious and should ring alarm bells in mediacl people.

At age 91, I imagine most people have diveritula.  But it could be something else and his practitioner could only be sure of a diverticulitis diagnosis if they knew he already had diverticulosis - by colonoscopy or other imaging techniques  .... I believe, as a lay-person!

    Good luck with your research.

    Pete.

He has had a colonoscopy and a firm diagnosis. He has only had this bout for a few days. Obviously if it continues, I will contact his gp. I am aware that is a support group, but thought that someone on here would have experience of this and could offer their own experiences. I am sorry to have bothered you.

I would agree with the other reply you have had.  Need to see a Dr. regarding his medication.
