After a CT scan my dr says I have scarring at the base of both lungs, do I have PF?

I'm 42, never smoked. A barium swallow test showed acid reflux entering my lungs when laying down, a CT scan shows scarring at the base of both lungs. Does this mean I have PF?

    Hi teeninja:

The quick answer is you might have a lung condition but it is too early to say what condition.  But you need to have your medical practitioner arrange for a C-Scan to get a clearer picture of just what the scarring is.  You may have read other posts of mine under this topic and as I have said before, there is a degree of opinion out there that their could be a link between acid reflux and IPF.  In my own case I had very bad acid reflux prior to and around the time I was diagnosed.  You have not said what your MD's opinion was following your barium test. You should also insist on seeing a respiratory specialist.

In regard to the acid reflux itself, you should immediately start using a raised pillow in bed to keep your head up.  You can buy a styrofoam wedge for this purpose.  I'm not an MD but I would assume he has also put you on medication to reduce the acid entering your system.  I take a proten pump inhibitor called Tecta here in Canada but it may have another name where you are.  There have been some concerns raised about prolonged use of  proten pump medication but I have been on it for several years and have had no problems. Nor is my MD concerned.

Hope this has helped and please stay in touch.

My more detailed reply is below and stupidly I failed to notice you had already had a C-scan.  What was the opinion of the radiologist?

Please excuse my failure to read your post correctly.
