I had the operation on my left hand 6 years ago and the pain is back with a vengeance!!My surgery took 12 mins exactly!! As I was first on the list this was obviously the benchmark for all simialr ops that day!

I have just got a prescription for diclafenac to see me over the weekend which I am taking with paracetomol until I can see my doctor on Monday - pain is unbearable day and night.

I had carpal tunnel release done on my right hand about 5 years ago. Last year I got pins and needles and pains in my left arm. I ended up having an mri scan, which showed I had 2 prolapsed discs in my neck which was causing the pain. I've got to have them removed and replaced with artificial ones ............ I hope it isn't the same for you but it might be worth checking it out.

PS I hadn't had any particular neck injury - just 'wear and tear'

In jan 07 I had a tennis elbow operation, this started the carpel tunnel symtons, I then had the operation in my right had after the eltroic tests proved I had it in both hands, I had the first op in sep 07, it didnt work I was in extreme pain, so it was re-done in Nov 07, and to date I am in more pain then before. I have been told this is to be expected because there was alot of inflamation & infection found, I have been told to wait another couple of months and then the surgeon will do some test to see if there is any other underlying problems. Until then he has told me to take ibubrofen and massage the hand. This doesnt help at all and every day I have to try and cope with the pain, I just hope that something can be done to help. Any suggestions on a good pain relief that works. I have been advised that a tens machine would not be effective and a waste of money, I;m at my wits end.

I had Carpal Tunnel surgery on my right hand 7 years ago and all went well without any problems.

Having my left hand done, I was confident that all would be well. How wrong I was. I am in severe pain and can hardly use my thumb, it feel 'sprained' all the time. Simple things like switching the cooker on are impossible. I have to use a disabled person's bottle opener to open the easiest of things, and the pains shoot up my arm to the elbow.

I had severe bruising once the surgery was done, my arm was black, blue, yellow and purple for four weeks.

It is now 9 weeks since the surgery and it's worse than ever. My whole arm aches. I can hardly use my thumb and when returning to the doctor was told to come back in three months.

Has anyone else had this problem please?

I had carpel tunnel surgery on both hands this year the first 1 was in feb and touch wood every thing ok so i went ahead with my left hand in may. the surgery i had done on my second 1 was done by a different sugeon and totaly diferent, i could actualy feel them scrapin and cuttin around my thumb erea and wrist. Ever since i had it done iv had trouble with the use and movement of my thumb and wrist especialy with things like drivin ridin my bike undoin and liftin and grabbin things. I told my specialist about this and he said it was nothin 2 do with the surgery now i have less use than i had b4.
