Allergic red eye condition

hello just and update had red and watery eyes since last April have been on and off steroid drops since then. When weaned off the steroid drops it would come back within a week. Had lots of tests with no reason or cure for this. Went to the optician about 5 weeks ago and eye pressure was very high so he took me off the steroids drops. Strange the symptoms have disappeared and have not returned. Hope it doesn't as it was quite distressing my eyes looked like an alien and would close up really small. Fingers crossed......still on list for  allergy test which I will have if I ever get seen 😗

Hi Finley, I forget, are you in the UK?

Is the Optician keeping an eye on your pressures?  You can't just stop Steroid eye drops but you have apparently had no adverse effects.

Morning yes in the UK. Have only been putting one drop in a day and weaned them off. He is checking my eye pressure every month and it's

going down since off the steroid drops. What would have been the effect of I just stopped them?

It really depends on how long you have been using them and at what dose and if you are on them for any length of time, you should be under an Ophthalmologist.

I was under an eye specialist but they signed me off with the steroids drops to take three times a day and wean them off. When it came back they would put me back on them. Went to my doctor to get more on prescription but she was concerned that steroids long term can cause eye damage so she sent me to my optician to test my eye pressure. It was very high and was concerned so have not taken them since.  All is fine at the moment so fingers crossed. Bev

I had a very similar problem. Started with nonstop watery eyes and that lead to recurrent viral conjunctivitis. I went to 3 ophthalmologists over a year. My symptoms cleared with steroid drops only to return shortly after weaning off the drops, three times. All along I had clogged tear ducts!!!! It's a simple test to determine if your tear ducts are clogged and a simple probing to clear the ducts. My eyes have remained perfectly healthy since the duct probing however some folks can become prone to clogged ducts as they age and may require surgery (the doc informed me of that of course). Something to consider if your symptoms return.
