Anyone found amitriptyline (not started it yet) has helped fibro? And anyone had bad jaw pain with difficulty clenching teeth together ? Is this another annoying quirk of fibro

    Hi Hun

I'm on amitriptolin and pregabalin and I had the same teeth clenching thing but it has eased with the tabs even though I still get it time to Time

    Hey deni1

Yes I get jaw pain too, nothing seems to help it though.

I'm currently taking amitriptyline. I've been taking it for about 2 months now. I recently had my dosage increased. It definitely helps me fall asleep and stay asleep. Though I feel very groggy in the morning (more than the usual fibro grog!). Unfortunately I still feel exhausted despite more sleep and it hasn't helped me with pain whatsoever. In reality it's only helped with the stress of not sleeping, but this has been replaced with stress of not 'coming round' until 3-4 hours after I wake which does not help when you're trying to hold down a job!

I hope it works for you, let us know how you get on.

    xx

Lol I will look forward to that then 😕 only got 10mg but I was feeling cautious after reading tab leaflet. Got through today laying on sofa in between moving. Must admit I was shocked how I'll I felt after getting home from docs, felt able to go ok but shattered/ill after. I have only been 'diognosed' by gp so she is going to see what the amitriptyline does. Thanks for the replies ☺

I have fibro and have tother say I suffer with those same symptoms.

I have tried amitryptyline but have to say, I had to stop taking it due to its side effects. I had terrible mood swings. But also noticed a severely decreased sex drive and also emotionless (except when felt moody/angry.)

Wish I had better news. Xx

Ok thanks, from reading others comments I don't think 2 weeks will see full benefits but might see some negative ones if I get any. At the moment my jaw under and in front of my ears is very painful I'm finding it painful to try and open my mouth yet it hurts to clench my teeth, you seem to just move from symptom to symptom don't you, 😯 take care

      Your welcome.

I do hope you have better luck than I did. I get that exact pain. And clenching my jaw is sore, I struggle even eating meals.

      Hope you feel better soon.

Hi to Holly and others who are having TMJ issues.   I, too, have had to put up with this for more than a year now............and yes, it is probably the worst symptom of Fibro that I have had to experience.   As one woman said above "can't clench teeth"......well, after visiting a specialist on this TMJ, Clenching is a very Big NO NO....it only makes the issue worse..also Talking has become limited (I really notice this TMJ pain if I have a visitor and next day the pain returns....not good for me, as I LIKE to talk, but am learning to But Out and listen)........firstly, my dentist thought it was more to do with Arthrites in Jaw, but when specialist tested me etc, he said No.....it is actually the facial muscles that we are using, and upsetting them............this also goes for eating meals that need to be chewed (and expecially NO Chewing Gum).

My diet has now been reduced to Soft foods, such as Fish/Eggs/Soups/mashed potatoes/Jellies/Banana Custards/Ice-cream/and most of all to keep up my Protein and vitamin, I make myself a Milkshake using Hospital Grade Sustagen (maybe called another name in UK/USA)????....but this is how I find able to sustain my necessary intake of different nutrients..................The specialist did make up a Brace to Support my Upper Jaw (but quite expensive to have made).....and physio has suggested to try and train your tongue to rest on roof of mouth, so jaw is not taking the weight of same........I feel that if you want to trial  wearing a Mouth Guard (the same as sportsmen wear), and ensuring it fits your upper teeth, this should do the same trick as my Brace.....allowing the jaw to lay loose is the best to relieve the pain/tautness of our Facial Muscles, as this is where the main pain is realing comeing from (even though it feels like the jaw joint)......also am sorry to say, that other than using a Hot-pack, the only other medication that alleviates this pain is Endone (& luckily for me, my GP will give me a script for same), and Valium to relax the muscle/s....................hoping this helps a little, and I truly am sorry that this is also another  symptom that we seem to have to put up with somewhere along the line.......Bron

    Hi Deni,

I'm on 10mg amitriptyline. They started me on 20mg and the nerve pain didn't ease at all but because you have to come off this drug slowly (please be aware of that), when I reduced it to 10mg it mysteriously started to work. More is not neccessarily better, well certainly in my case.

I always take mine at 8pm. If I take it earlier than that, then I want to go to bed too early and if I take it later than that, I find I'm too tired to get up for work in the morning.

Just taken mine....well half to see how it goes....tongue feels a little numb mind....or is it all in my mind lol . Feel tempted to lay on the floor and see if I sleep 😂 I agree different people may need different doses
