Anxiety Attacks

Oh god! Some please tell me this is normal... I have been on Sertreline for 10 weeks on a dose of 50mg. This week has been a nightmare. I have been so anxious, my stomach is in knots, I feel like my chest is so tight and I have been feeling sick and having anxious thoughts. It's really starting to scare me. I am not sleeping much either, I thought last week, things were starting to calm down,

I have been to see an OH specialist and they feel I am fit to go back to work. I have completed a Stress Risk Assesment as I have been off with Work related stress (mild depression and anxiety). I have a meeting with my employer next week to discuss everything. Now for 10 weeks I have had no phone or physical contact from my employer to see how I am. I have been so isolated which hasn't helped.

Any one in the same boat or give advice. I think I should see my GP tomorrow if I have another bad night.

Thanks

James

Hello Sarah, I won't kid you Sertraline is a rough ride/roller coaster but stick with it and you will feel the benefit. You should be proud of yourself for every single day you get through, see it as an accomplishment something you have achieved and another day nearer to recovery.

Hello James I don't think the isolation has helped at all. At 10 weeks you really should have started to even out now, if not either an increase in meds or a different meds may be required. You would normally start to feel back to normal about 3 months so you may want to give it a little bit more time, you have done well so far. It won't harm going to see the doc though if it helps. Try to take your mind off things, I know easier said than done, but it really does help if you can focus your mind/thoughts on something else. I have been on Sertraline since beginning of Nov and no panic/anxiety attacks have occurred since then. Hope you get better soon.

    Hello James,

sorry to hear of your troubles with sertraline..... but if there is any comfort to offer you from my own experience is this. Sertraline took about 14-18 weeks before i started to notice a return to my normal self. But, it could be that sertraline is the wrong choice of medication for you. speak to your doctor and see what advice he gives. and chin up, you will pull through.
