Any help? I got my colonoscopy results back!!

Posted , 10 users are following.

And everything is normal.

Normal. 😐 they're saying its "diarrhoea predominant IBS" and won't be doing any more investigations.

Was really hoping that they'd find something to cure it or even just give it a name other than IBS. (Obviously nothing sinister)

I suffer from severe left side pain that has me crippled, hot sweats, passing both diarrhoea and solid poops. Black/mucus stools too. And passing blood more than should. I can't even leave the house most days, never mind work as I'm basically house bound.

And they're saying this is normal!! 😡

He's wanting to put me back into therapy and back on all the tablets I've had in the past to see if they MIGHT work again. Baring in mind, the reason I stopped them all is because they were either not working at all or just made things a hell of a lot worse!!

Can anyone please tell me they have similar issues and know what to do for it?!

Apologies, I am just so angry and upset by all this. I know a lot of people have it a lot worse off but it's just gotten to the point where its just too much. sad

In my opinion u need further tests. A colonoscopy can often come back clear yet there can still be a problem in the small bowel. I personally had a 20yrs diagnosis of IBS. After things got beyond a joke last summer I insisted I get tests done. Turns out, lo and behold, I am lactose fructose and glucose intolerant, B12 deficient, have malabsorption and a bacterial overgrowth (Google SIBO). My stool samples came back high for inflammation and all of a sudden Crohns disease was mentioned! My colonoscopy was clear as was my small bowel swallow. My consultant tells me I have inflammation somewhere, they just have to find it! Last week I had a white cell scan, basically a 3D scan on the small bowel and I will get the results in another week. Don't lay down and take it. Ask for a fecal calprotectin test to check ur stool for inflammation. Good luck

      Hi Jo

I have not had any stool sample done yet. I have an appt. On Monday with my GP and I am going to ask for it. Like you I have IBS for about 20 years as well. Now also diverticulosis. Seeing Surgeon in 3 weeks.

I hope you get some answers.

How does this condition, and the left-side pain, respond to fasting?

I wish that I had a dollar for every time that I've re-learned to give my old gut a solid rest every time that some recurring discomfort comes along, since I tend to lose sleep and suffer tiredness whenever the gut discomfort is present for more than a day.

Oh, and I've seen doctors, but every exam and every test have always been negative, so I figure that it's up to me to try to fix it.

    Hi LoLo

I am sorry you arev going through this. Dud the colonoscopy show IBS. If it is, it could be quite debilitating. Have you had any blood work done stool samples ultrasound or CT scan to rule out other conditions. What tablets were you on before and what were they for. I just want to get a clearer picture of your symptoms.

    Dear Lolo

I'm sorry to hear about your condition.  Sounds horrible.

I am interested ina couple of forums and one of the common themes I see is that people seem to be loyal to their doctor.   Is it very difficult to change doctors in the UK?   I have had several occassions in my life when me or a family member has not been travelling well and a change of doctor has resulted in an excelllant outcome.   Its not always that the doctor is incompetent, sometimes just fresh eyes and a the "start from scratch" approach yioelds better results.

In one case my doctor had always treated my broken bones or precribed some antibiotic for an infection and cured it.   Therefore I thought he was competent when he treated me for some lung disease.   Fortunately I was feeling pretty bad when he was on vacation and I had a young locum make a home visit (!!!)  Within an hour I was in an ambulance and on my way to an infectious disease hospital with something exciting that should have been treated a month ago.

I your case the idesa that we will just go back to the original medication to make sure it doesn't work now sounds alarming.   I dont think a second opinion ever hurts.   Call it doctor shopping or any other insulting term.   You only get one chance for your doctor to stuff up while he has lots of other patients to pay for his BMW

If he is thew tenth doctor you've seen and they are all lost then head for emergency at a major teaching hospital.   In Australia you may have to wait for 5 hours but when the doctors eventually see you there is a 50% chance they will pass you on to a very experienced specialist.   Tell them that you are there because you are desperate.

    Good luck

Hi Lolo Iam sorry to hear of your troubles with your gut my story was very similar to yours my results from colonoscopy were "clear"!! It's beyond frustrating, I have had the best success in treating myself with goats milk kefir I have only started using this stuff for about 1 month and my pains are nearly all gone now I had almost given up hope cause I tried everything I could ranging from very high strength probiotics like vsl#3 ( which helped a bit) I make the kefir myself from live bacteria and this stuff in my opinion is worth its weight in gold! Iam using store bought goats milk but my next plan is to get raw goats milk from down in England ( I live in Scotland , it's illegal to sell raw milk up here!!  But I can have it dispatched by courier legally) go figure😯. Anyway what I would recommend is to do some research on kefir I think you'll be very surprised how amazing this stuff is, Good luck.

      Hi Christine

I am sorry for what you arre going through. I can totally relate. I am back and forth with doctors. Today I have a pain in the left lower abdomen all day, it feels like a wound. I am starting to freak out. I have not had a cat scan yet. Imodium helped me to stop the diarreah.

Sorry to hear that things are so tough for you.  I suggest that you go back to your GP and focus on the fact that you have blood in your stools.  As I understand it, this is not normal for IBS and needs further investigation.  Be firm and, if necessary, see another doctor.  I wish you well.
