Anyone getting relief from meds

There are lots of postings about procedures for BPH but not much about meds.

I found this list of 21 meds for BPH.  I've never heard of many of them.

I'd like to hear about anyone experiences with them.

Many of them are the same drug going by a different marketing name.  If you click on the name it will show you the generic name.  They all have potential for undesirable side effects.  I've taken most of them (except Cialis) and experienced ED and fainting side effects, they do help with BPH.  Presently I'm taking Alfuzosin and Finasteride - one pill every other day.  The side effects are less and I hope to stop taking meds in a couple of weeks at my six month point following PAE.

I took Tamsulosin for several years and got some relief from urgency and frequency issues. I had no side effects. Eventually I wanted to move off of the med and had the Urolift about 6 months ago. That has worked for me. Bob

I don't like taking any meds and have tried to manage my BPH symptoms of urgency and frequent urination over the past five years. The symptoms have gradually got worse and really impacting on my sleep. Nucturnal urination was at best a few drips and no real releaf. During the day was slightly better but never really voiding. I reluctantly agreed to try  - Diffundos XL 400mcg capsules - one a day. This is an Alpha Blocker (tamsulosin Hydrochloride) and the effect was immediate. No urgency, long periods without need to urinate, complete bladder emptying with good flow. Now only having to get up once a night & occasionally lasting all night. As yet no side affects. Keeping my fingers crossed that the the improvements don't wear off. I forgot to take a tablet one day and the urgency reminded me as the day progressed. I wish I had tried this medication years ago.

My uro told me there were two types of bph drugs; relaxers and shrinkers.  I was on Flomax/tamsulosin, a relaxer for about a year until that wasn't working well, then he put me on Finasteride, a shrinker.  But that slowed blood flow to everything, and I had cold extremeties and stopped taking it.  Then he put me on dutasteride, another shrinker, and that was ok.  Bottom line; drugs are not a fix; once you start needing them, look into surgery.  Delaying that is bad for the bladder.  I had HoLEP surgery which went very well.... in and out of the hospital in less than 24 hours.  Back to normal after a few months.  The only procedure I did not research was PAE; many have reported that worked, but not all.  Other than that, I definitely recommend HoLEP if you can find someone good that does it.  I highly recommend the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix.

If meds could cure BPH urologists would have to look for another profession.

In my case, I tried Flomax with no sucess, and I was on Avodart for about 3 years. In so far as relief, I'd say that the Avodart worked in my case as about a 6 out of 10 (ten being fantastic results). Finally, like most prescriptions, they lose their effectiveness, and I went ahead and had a TURP done in October 2015. The TURP has been a great decision in my particular case. Urine flow like a teen again, no medications any more.

I was on Tamsulosina.  It reduced the number of times I got up at night from 8 to 3-4.  It also gave me painful headaches.

At the beginning of this week I switched to Cialis 5mg and have been getting up as often as every 45 minutes at night and feel very deprived of sleep.  I also have a headache now (never had headaches before so I'm assuming its from these meds).

    Hoping for some relief soon.

I'm hoping that the cialis will start to help me in the next few days, else I will go back to Tamsulosin.
