Are all my symptoms due to gerd

Several years ago I started to suffer with bloating and wind. This became a bit of a joke with my boyfriend but I never seekes medical advice.

Not long after I started to get palpitations. Had ecg and echocardiogram. Both normal.

Last year I returned from Egypt with a feeling of being strangled. After bloods and scan and several visits to ENT I was told I had gerd. I was prescribed omezrapol and gaviscon for 3 months. No improvement. Palpitations became worse. ENT referred me to gastro. Has endoscopy. Normal. Docs took me off meds

Went on diet. High fat low carb. Almost all symptoms disappear.

But now.... If I eat something that doesn't agree I'm in agony within minutes and this pain moves down my intestine as the offending meal travels through the gut.

I have developed asthma. Aggregated by exercise. I get pressure in my chest even if I haven't eaten. I am reluctant to eat when I feel like this cos I often feel odd with it. Dizzy. Spaced out. Nauseous.

I've also started developed constant tinitis. Doc said no wax and ear drops don't seem to improve it.

Sometimes by drinking gaviscon a lot of the symptoms go for a few minutes so I kinda figure that it must all be gerd related.

Also I am getting blurred vision when I'm feeling odd. Get shadows across my eyes when I run.

Feeling frustrated as feel docs think I imagine all symptoms as everything comes back normal.

Would be nice to know if anyone else gets so many weird symptoms and any tips on how to improve it all

Forgot to mention how when it is bad I wake gasping for breath. As if I've had a massive palpitation or have stopped breathing. I raise the bed during these times but it makes no difference

      Hi sezzp

Down load achalasia from google/patient information

      Achalasia (beyond the basics..

I loose breath also when I am lying down  and sleep with 2 pillows or sleep in a recliner chair

I am not a doctor but with the symptoms you are saying its looks as you have got what I have..

Ask your doctor to look to see if you have a weak osephugus

and if the sphincter... this stops the acid fvrom comming up....its like heart burn...

I am due for the operation end november...a doctor from holland is comming to New Zealand to operate on 6 of us....a first for NZ

Hi I would go back to the Doctors and ask to see a specialist at the hospital.

I had suffered for years with gerd and I

Know the symptoms can make you feel

Very ill. I used to wake up in the night

With a feeling that I was choking and

    Couldn't breath.

I was then put on medication but this did

Not help. Surgery was my last option and

    I am now gerd free.

Could you also have ibs as I also suffer

From Ibs and this causes terrible bloating

And pain after eating. I take buscapan

This is available to buy from the chemist.

    Ask for a second opinion

    Good luck

Hi I have the same symtoms, I can t eat without burping, bloating and excess saliva.

Prescribed 60 mg lasoprazone and gaviscon also inhaler. My ears are the same feel blocked and painful. Told my doctor who said there was a little wax. He just did nt understand. I hardly eat because of pain and discomfort it causes, even when I eat bland food I have symptoms. So I am underweight, my chest pain gets worse when I do anything strenuous. I am waiting for endoscopy. I constantly feel as though something is stuck in my throat. The way I cope at moment is by keeping occupied. At first it freaked me out as thought I could nt breathe. So read up on gerd, so I could understand my symptoms and what was causing them. This site helped me too as there are people here with helpful advice x

Thank you for all of your replies. It's good to know that you're not alone and that I'm not imagining all the symptoms that gerd appears to cause as many gP's would have us believe.

I went back to my gp today who, as usual, made me feel like I am fussing about lots of minor symptoms and there's not that much wrong. She has put me back on omezrapol, double dose this time, and is testing for H.pylori. At least someone is finally testing me for that!

In answer the questions and suggestions:

I have have an endoscopy and they found nothing wrong. So that rules out the weak eosophagus theory.

I have tried raising the bed but weirdly it helps me to lie flat on my stomach as that eases the pressure of the feeling of a weight on my chest.

I've started taking iron supplements as I figure gerd can stop absorption of iron and some of my symptoms like the tinnitus could be from that.

I have always been healthy, ate a varied vegetarian diet and exercised regularly but now I'm scared to eat too Sharon. But recently I've had the symptoms even alwithout food. During exercise I wheeze and then have chest pressure and wheeze for hours/days afterwards. Hardly encouragement to stay healthy is it!!!
