Yes I was diagnosed in 2014 with sjs. My kidneys are not functioning well. I just read where IC is a more common complaint if sjs lately. Guess it's time to see my doctor.

Paula,
Both my kidneys have failed due to Sjogren's and I'm currently on Dialysis and transplant list. If Sjogron's is not managed properly, it can damage our organs. Mine went undiagnosed for over a decade and resulted in kidney failure. I have finally found a great rheumatologist Dr. Daniel J Wallace who is considered to be an authority on Sjogron's & Lupus. His book is the official book of Sjogron's Foundation USA. If you live anywhere near Southern California I highly recommend Dr. Wallace. He was able to save kidneys of other patients who got to him sooner than I could. Hope it helps.

Thank you for the info .... I live in Ohio. I was sent to the Cleveland Clinic for diagnosis, so it looks like I should schedule an appt. it's about A six hour drive but will be worth it. I will not put this off. Didn't realize it could attack kidneys. Maybe he needs to adjust my plaqunil or change it. Thank you. Sorry for your kidney failure. Take care
Paula

Thanks Paula.
Yes please don't delay and see a nephrologist asap so they can start managing your kidneys. Do you know what is ur GFR (kidney function)
I believe everyone with Sjogron's should know and monitor their GFR at least on a yearly basis, I wish I knew this 10 years ago!
Good luck with ur appointment and please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Also, if you know your creatinine number you can calculate your GFR using below link.

If you don't then ask your PCP for both.

Hi Paula, Like you I have been undiagnosed for multiple autoimmune diseases. My local Rheum seems to be fixated on CTD & Fibromyalgia, dismissing mounting symptoms. Finally got an appointment with Rheum Ctr at John Hopkins in Baltimore, who after numerous tests, has finally recognized that I have overlapping systemic lupus & sjogrens. I have had 4 UTI's this year which have been treated with Keflex. I recently went to a local Urologist who said she wouldn't treat me with antibiotics since the bacteria is different each time! I can only hope that now that JH has a Dx for me, will look at the whole picture, including that the fact that my eldest sister passed several years ago from complications from lupus/end stage renal failure. Although my case is different than my dear sister, the road has been long & hard both emotionally & physically, when the medical drs. I've seen in the past refused to listen or address my symptoms. In spite of my struggles, I have had to learn to be my strongest advocate & still try to learn as much as I can about autoimmune diseases. I start next week with initial IVIG & hope that it will make a difference. Please tell me which book by Dr Wallance, you would recommend. I wish you all the best as I know what challenges you are facing, there is some comfort when you have a Dr.who you can trust on your journey.

Hi Paula,
?Yes, Sjogren's can cause kidney failure, I have been in kidney failure for the last year. It has taken this long and the right meds to try to help get me situated. I'm doing better, my kidney specialist has me on a medication that has helped me greatly. If you would like to email me, I will give you the name of the medication. The Sjogren's has attacked my organs, we found the problem because my blood pressure just went crazy, it started with my adrenals, with testing they found my kidneys were failing, and the kidneys control our blood pressure. Once they got that situation under control, my blood pressure evened out. It has also attacked my liver, intestines and stomach lining. So far my lungs are good, but it can also attack our hearts...so we really have to stay on top of things!! You will most likely have to see a kidney specialist, as they are the ones that will be able to get things under control, they will be able to adjust the meds to help the kidneys work properly.
I sure wish you luck, this is not a nice disease to have!!! Please let us know how you are doing!!

I had no idea kidneys could be compromised so badly. I will have to check this out further.
Currently I really do believe that I have a lymphatic drainage problem that's being ignored. I am told that it's just my body being not symmetrical. Meanwhile my upper arm gets fatter and folds of skin on one side of my body only, start to concern me
