Bleeding and diarrhoea.

Hello, I had a colonoscopy 12 months ago everything came back ok,unfortunately I am now experiencing a really bad flare up,with diarrhoea and heavy bleeding, but was told I had to experience these symptoms for 6 weeks before anything can be done.Is this normal.??

    I think, what they mean is that everything in you colon has to settle down before another colonoscopy can be done.

      Thank you,for your reply,It just it seems a long time to wait with these horrible symptoms,constant diarrhoea and bleeding,I have been told I can take Loperamide,but I don't know for how long.

    I don't think heavy bleeding is ever normal, if it was me I would see a colon/rectal specialist.

    dont sound normal to me..Is the blood mixed with mucous when you wipe or in bowels or what? I would go to ER. You do have a the diagnoses of divertisculis right? Asking because you said the coloscopy was good and didnt show anything.

    Get a second opinion, I've discussed DD with several doctors since I had my first bout 5 weeks ago, I work for surgeons at the University of Pennsylvania. Did the colonoscopy confirm Diverticulosis. I went to my doctor the day after my pain and blood in stools started and they sent me for blood work and a CT scan the same day which confirmed it and started me on antibiotics right away. Heavy bleeding is not normal. After that treatment and a few days of a liquid diet followed by a low residue diet feor a couple of weeks I am feeling almost myself again.
