Hi I got ear popper it dissent help an awful lot but it may help you

I also got the ear popper and the gadget that goes behind your ear and vibrates,  neither one helped me , but since you can blow your nose and your ear pops they might work for you. The best thing for now is a ear tube. I'm waiting to get them done again the first part of Feburary. Good luck to you

The ear popper may help if your problem isn't too bad. I recommend you see a specialist (ENT), allergies are often the cause but you need to see an ENT Allergist (not a regular allergist) to be properly evaluated.

    Good luck...

    Hi There,

I've been working on my left ET since a diving mishap long ago. There are a few options for you.

     Medications / operations:

If your ET / inner ear has an infection have your doctor prescribe antibiotics. Many times they cannot see infection of the ET until it presents itself in the inner ear

Prednisone is the strongest anti-inflammatory on the market. It's not good to take this over a long period of time. It should help with time.

Your ET may be having a reaction to something else? I take a regiment of two aspirin twice a day with Antihistamine. Antihistamine are typically what I see many divers open their ET for better function. Benedral type sp? is what I use. Costco has a similar looking brand that is very inexpensive. The aspirin thins the blood which helps inflammation… not sure how Antihistamine work? But they have helped me. Warning: They can make you drowsy

I'm checking on Balloon Dilation for my ET. There are a few doctors in the US that are practicing this operation. They basically insert a tube like balloon into your ET and inflate with liquid. This stretches the ET to a wider opening. Insurance won't cover this operation since they consider it experimental. In my experience most ENT's don't have a broad range of experience dealing with the ET. .

I had complete loss of hearing in one ear 2-3 months ago. GPs prescribed me two different antibiotics - none worked.

Referred to an ENT consultant who used a camera to look up my nose and said my euschian tube was NOT blocked. My hearing in that ear is slowly coming back, but I have to draw my jaw, blow nose etc to clear so I'm not convinced he was correct. It continues to block up again and again.

I'm an optomist, but on this occasion and reading all these forums, I'm losing confidence in an ENT consultant actually being able to resolve the issue.

Is this a sympton we have to live with ?

Anyone else had to get a hearing aid to improve their hearing because of this ?

    Thanks

My diagnosis in 2008 was ETD. ENT did a lot of blood and other tests and determined that no specific diagnosis was possible. Did one complicated test to rule out excess fluid. Head and nasal CT scans. Tried a bunch of medications, different antihistimanes, steroids, and ear tubes. Ear tubes seemed to make it worse (fell out several months later on their own). I saw probably 5 differnt ENTs, one at a major university. There are apparently a few things that can cause ETD that they can actually name or identify, like Meniere's disease; But it seems that most cases of ETD of have no specific chemical findings or physical findings leaving them to say something like "there is nothing I can do, its a problem that you will have to live with." Most ETD is assumed to be related to an allergic causation. I have significant allergic rhinitis but none of the anti-allergy drugs (antihistamines, etc.) appear to have any effect on the ETD. As far balloon dilitation of the ETs, those tubes are very small and delicate. Sticking some (very small) balloon in there would seem to invite lots of complications like infection and fluid build up, etc. Until the majority of ENTs accept and embrace this procedure, I personally would try and stay away from it. Problem is, there is not much useful information to pass along about ETD in most cases. Forgot, strong steroids like prednisone are supposed to help in a lot of cases. But, as has been noted in this thread, taking prednisone for long periods of time can be quite risky (increased serious infections, bone loss, and lots of other things). But if it works, what can you do? It did not work for me.

got prescription for prednisone but too scared to take them.it really makes me laugh its such a silly problem to have blocked tubes and yet no one can cure it trouble is its not just the blocked tubes and loss of hearing its the depression too  knowing that its somethin ive just gotta live with might just trry the ear popper theres one on amazon but its $130 its a lot to pay if it doesnt work. oh question how do you wash your hair in the shower without getting water in your ears? got water in them last week and it was hell made everything ten times worse

I guess chronic sinusitis is another somewhat uncertain term which often goes along with allergy, smoking, other irritants, etc. over a period of time. Unlike acute sinusitis which may well be due to infection, chronic sinusitis usually is not a true infection. It seems that ETD and chronic sinusitis are often connected to each other, expecially when ETD is brought up for discussion. Again, the usual comments about allergy, etc., and the usual suggestions to try antihistamines, etc.
