Hi Caroline, has the surgeon who did your op say why you were bleeding and further has he said why your vision is blurred he must know.  Is it only the eye that had the cataract removed that is blurred and is it your first cataract removal, everyone is very different after a cataract op, you will see that from all the letters on this site, you have to speak to the surgeon and have him check your eye.

Please let us know the result, I had terrible pain for four days after my first eye was done then it was OK but after my second eye was operated on it hasnt been good, my sight is Ok in both eyes thank goodness but the other problems that I am having arent so good

Hope you are going to be alright, please let us know

    Regards

I had similar issue after second lense and Yag laser my eyesight is worse than before cataract surgery. They are still trying to sort it all out.

Ophthalmologists make every attempt to maintain the integrity of the capsular bag so that the intraocular lens can be positioned correctly within it. But the capsular bag is extremely thin — approximately the thickness of a single red blood cell — and can sometimes rupture or break.therefore causing bleeding, displacement and rotation of the lense.

measurements made before the iol is ordered and inserted might be off or they could have missed a slight astigmatism. Some times waiting time can heel. If not return to the surgeon.

Caroline, everyone is different but this site helped me so much when I found it because it helped me understand what I was going through many others were too.  I thought I'm getting Cataract surgery, I paid extra thousands of dollars out of pocket to purchase the best lens available and according to what everyone told me "you wait you're going to see so great you won't believe it."  NOT.

When I first had my surgery I couldn't see hardly anything clearly.  I couldn't see road signs so I couldn't drive, I couldn't see the computer even when I made the font 200% and I couldn't read anything that was on a package, for example, cooking instructions on a package.  I was so devestated.  I've had a LOT of problems all of which I won't go into but I just wanted to tell you to hang in there.  It did get better for me but I still can't see as well as I did with glasses and Cataracts.

When they did my one eye, the Cataract was so thick that when they removed it my Iris AND my Pupil came out and had to be stitched back in.  There was blood laying in the back of that eye which caused me to have a big spot everywhere I looked and it was like a giant see through floater, so hard to explain but he told me it was the blood and it would eventually dissapate which it did.

I would have to say that this is probably the worst medical thing I've ever experienced and I have a lot of problems but when it's your eyes.....that's devastating, because our eyes are everything to us.  So just hang in there and ask your surgeon lots of questions, don't be shy, my surgeon followed up with me about a dozen times. It's been going on three months since my surgery and I still feel disappointed but at the same time I am thankful that a lot of my problems improved and I'm thankful that I can see....period!

Good luck and let us know how things are going.  I'll say some prayers for you.

I had my cataract surgery at the end of September on my left eye. My vision seems as bad as it was before the surgery. I didn't go back to the doctor who did the surgery because he treated me like I was just being silly. When I told him I was having trouble driving, he told me to put a patch over that eye and drive. My new doctor has tried by giving me more steroids. It's not helping. He sent me to a retina specialist who just said he would wait 2 or 3 months before doing anything. I am afraid to have my right eye done. What will I do if that eye reacts the same way? I need to work for a living. This time of year, it gets dark so early, I have to rush home before it gets too dark to see. Of course, the sun is also a problem during the day, but it's better than the dark.  I am scared and worried. I love to read. I have been reading the same book for days now. It feels like I am seeing through a cloud. Some words are too blurred to see.

I trust my doctor, but I am having trouble feeling positive about the what the future holds. I wish I had a magic answer for you.

Hi GG, I am so sorry to hear you are having such a problem and I can understand your reluctance not to have the other eye done, nobody can advise you about that and the problem is, how bad is the cataract in your other eye that needs removed, if its not too bad and you could live with it then thats a thought but if its bad, there is a chance it would get worse, its a lottery, especially if you read the letters on this page, I thought I had problems but they are nothing compared to others, I had my first eye done last July this year and the pain was so bad for 4 days that I considered not having my second eye done, did have it done in August again I had a lot of pain but the sight in both eyes is good and I am very lucky with that but I do have a slight distorted vision down the side of my eye plus my eyes feel heavy all the time but I am going to live with that, its better than having bad vision.

Your retina specialist is waiting 2-3 months, this will be to see if your eye is going to settle down, I cant imagine what it must be like for you trying to drive home before its dark, you poor thing, yes your work is important to you as is driving, I do hope you are going to come through this.  Get advice about all this, they have to understand how it is for you, also get advice about your second op and some reassurance.

Keep us up to date with how you get on, this is a help to other

Thank you for the kind words. I hope your distortion and heaviness gets better. The vision in my other eye is still pretty good for now, so I can wait for the surgery in that eye.
