Botox injection

Hi  I've suffered greatly for many years on & off with an anal fissure, yesterday After a miserable Xmas in agony I went private and had Botox injection and a skin tag which fills with blood which is a symptom of the fissure scar tissue snipped off .

its its now 20 hours after surgery and I'm baffled as to why I'm not in any pain and not even sore, I've taken no pain relief and no creams. ( im not complaining 😍)I'm terrified of my first BM which I'm hoping will not be today as want to give it time to settle down but has any one else had this procedure and it's worked that easily ? ...I've only found posts where people are saying it didn't work ! ...hope I've not just spent a lot of money for nothing !

Hi Helen I had the same problem last year had a terrible fissure and suffered for 6 months tried so many lotions and potions creams tablets ect then I finally had Botox which was amazing for 4 days no pain which was lovely but really sorry to say for me then it seemed to stop working 😓 I had to wait another 2 weeks of unbelievable terrible pain until something was done so I ended up with having my muscle cut to permanently stop the spasm I had it last October 2015 and touch wood I haven't had a single twinge since! The first few BMs were unpleasant but nothing compared to the pain of the fissure!! But everyone is different so u mite b a lucky one and it has worked! Fingers crossed!!

Hi Helen. I am shocked that you aren't in pain with skin tag removal as I have heard terrible things but obv very happy and relieved as I want to get my tags removed badly! I have haemorrhoids, fissure and skin tags.

I had botox 3 weeks ago. Because they gave me an enema I didn't go for about 4 days after the injections. My first few bms were fine but I'm very upset to say the pain is just the same for me as before I believe it hasn't done anything for me. Some people say you need it twice. When I get it the second time I'll be asking for my tags to be removed too and hope they can do something with the haemorrhoids as I believe theye are the reason that my fissure won't heal.

Did they give you anything to take home? Ie meds? Stay away from pain relief as much as poss...it constipates you!

Hi Helen.  I ended up having botox around 6 years ago after enduring 4 - 5 months of agony.  The Diltiazem and Rectogesic seemed to do nothing other than irritate an already painful area and cause unbearable itching.  I had the botox and things weren't too bad that day, but the next week was pretty rough - after effects of general anaethetic which messes up you bowels up a bit, etc.  But after a week I had little pain, and the next 5 weeks were great.  After that I could feel it coming back again (but nowhere near as bad as before) so, as instructed by my consultant, I reported back and was scheduled for another botox procedure.  Again, the first week was not great, but thankfully after that it appeared to be healed.  I did have another fissure about 3 years later, but that healed on it's own.

The problem with the botox as my consultant explained it to me is knowing how much to give.  If they give you too much you will lose control of your bowels - not good even temporarily !  The 2nd time around they increased the dose a little which obviously worked for me.

I sincerely hope that it works for you !

Hi Helen, great to hear that you are feeling no pain! I have had 2 Botox injections over the past 4 years. The most recent was over a year ago and like you, I was amazed to feel absolutely no pain from the moment I woke from the procedure. I find that it is so important to keep regular and be mindful of what I eat. My fissure came back after the first Botox injection because I slipped up and ate some Thai food with lots of chilli. This caused another fissure and as you can imagine, I check all my meals when I eat out for signs of chilli and don't add it to my cooking. Having said that, my specialist has informed me that because I am prone to fissures, there is no guarantee that I won't get another, but I would definitely get the Botox again because for me it does work 😊. Good luck and enjoy the feeling of no pain!!!

Hi. And thank you all for your responses, I'm continuing to heal but having a difficult time deciding if the Botox has worked ! ...I'm taking movicol, lactulose and a little Senna every day to keep soft and although it's painful passing a BM its a different kind of pain to what the fissure was giving and not as painful  so I'm hoping I'm just sore from the procedure !......time will tell . I live abroad but came home to the uk for the surgery .... Plucking up the courage to fly home  at the end of the week..... 7 hrs sitting on a plane with what could be agonising trip so trying very hard to keep soft and not annoy it ! 😂 Fingers crossed ! 🙏

Lots of success stories, I would not lose hope, negativity is alot easier to locate, especially in forums! I have heard excellent things about the botox injection method, and it is the route I will be taking if recommended after my visit to the specialist in a month.

From what my doctor told me, the botox injection is highly successful and the only negative reports he had were from patients who had a reaction to the botox or people who were handled by someone who was not efficient with giving injections.

I hope you remain pain free, if it works for you, long may it last smile

Hi everyone ... 2 weeks after Botox and still feeling great, I managed to fly home ( I live in Dubai ) and was worried the hot air and air con would dehydrate me so have been taking one movicol and one dose of lactulose per evening before bed, this seems to do the trick, I still feel bruised after I've passed a BM but not the agonising feeling of the tear followed by spasms for the rest of the day , I would say after 30 mins after going to toilet I'm pain free for the rest of the day , I also had a skin tag removed and never had any pain from that at all ...fingers crossed I remain like this 🙏
