Changing from combined to progesterone only birth control pill

Hi, I'm 49 and officially entered the perimenopause club april 2014. I would really love to know if any of you experienced subtle/gradual or sweeping changes to your cycle and menopausal syptoms after changing from the combined to the progesterone only birth control pill.  I was advised by my Dr to change due to increased health risks post the age of 45.

Curious because my sisters started their menopause journey 5-7 after me. Or should I just embrace the fact that we women can experience things differently and that's okay. hmmmmm.

From reading about many women's experiences with peri and menopause here, I'm assured that we women can have different symptoms at all different ages and that's definitely ok! Have you seen the list of over 60 symptoms of peri posted in this forum? We can have any combo of those symptoms depending on our own individual hormone levels, tendencies, diets, etc. My mother went into menopause at age 45 and I'm 53 still going through peri. My sister had lots of menstrual problems in her mid 40s and had to have an ablation, which basically put her in menopause overnight.

Im interested in how you're doing with the progesterone only pills. Do you feel good on them? Did they affect your weight at all?

      Hi Emma

I found the 60 symptoms of peri an amazing opportunity to reassure myself that I wasn't crazy.

It's been 4 years now since I've been on the progesterone only pills. Luckily I haven't had any problems. As for my weight I have noticed no issues I would attribute to my pill but rather perI symptoms itself i.e decrease in muscle mass and increase in fat around my tummy.

I've always been quite lean for my age but in the last 6months my body has 'soften'. Watching my food and increasing my strength training is heloping. I'm seeing a nutritionalist who specialises in women's health/hormones.

My cycle continues to be all over the place every 2 to 3 months.

      Take care.

Im on the prostegen pill 3 times a day and so far they are suiting me fine. cleared up quite a few problems for me, no nausea now, hot sweats at night have stopped, ibs has cleared up, no mood swngs, Consultant said they seem to have balanced my hormones, so while they are working Im staying on them. I dont have any breaks from them so i dont get the bad withdrawal bleed, that is after consulattion with a consultant as i know you are suppose to have a break.

Kath , do you have a weeks break or do you take them contiunous? I know people have different symptons and you have to do what works for you
