Changing my GP

Hello,

I'm an adult in my early 20s but I'm having extreme difficulty focusing on my education and always have been, I tried discussing this with my GP but I don't think he took my seriously at all as on the face of everything I look perfectly fine.

I wanted to get a second opinion from a professional mental health profession.

Secondly is it possible to book a GP at another practice through the patience access site, as I wanted to see an ENT specialist and would ideally like to go to the one in Manchester I've already sent an email but go no response.

Thanks

I am not sure why you want to see an ENT specialist? You will need to be referred to any specialist by your GP. Going to another GP does not necessarily mean they will be any better and could be worse of course. GPs have ten minutes to see you, so you have to explain very succinctly your problems. They do not seem to like multiple problems and they do not have time to chat for any period of time.

I need to see an ENT for something seperately entirely but thanks for letting me know what I'll have to be referred.

Did you talk to your GP about your ENT problem and your difficulty focussing at the same appointment? Put yourself in their shoes, when you come in they know nothing about what you are going to say, they have to diagnose something within ten minutes when the next patient will come through the door with something totally different.

Yes I explained to them my issue his reponse was if you had anything related to ADHD you would be looking through my draws by now...

What were you expecting to achieve from your appointment?

Did you explain your symptoms or did you say I think I have ADHD? Doctors do not like people self diagnosing!

I could've explained better but than again since my old doctor has retired the whole practice has gone downhill.

I believe he couldn've handled the situation a little better or at least referred me to a specialist.

I don't understand why you think the GP should refer you to a specialist?? Presumably the GP with his professional knowledge thought that it was not necessary.

What if I wanted a second opinion for that matter I believe that would be the most adequate solution, don't you think?

Yes you can ask for a second opinion, is that to see if you have ADHD or for your ENT problem? I assume you must have very bad symptoms that are being ignored if you are asking for a second opinion. What did your GP recommend when you saw them?

ADHD to begin with as I believe this is of the biggest concern as my education could be getting effected, I would personally like discretion when speaking to someone about this. My last GP who I spoke to said they won't put anything about this ADHD appoinment on file which I ofcourse was happy with as I don't want any negative comeuppance resulting from this for any future prospects I may have.

As for ENT I believe I should create a seperate thread for this as I've already undergone rhinoplasty once.

    Thanks

Have you ever been diagnosed with ADHD? What are your symptoms that make you think you have it?

Are you unhappy with your rhinoplasty?

I have never been diagnosed with it but I believe I do show quite a lot of symptoms but I do not wish to delve in these I rather seek professional help as self diagnosis can be counter intuitive.

As for my rhiniplastry I was promoised the clarity of my voice would improve which it hasn't, I still get a lot of sneezing, I still have very severe snoring and lastly I have to keep taking medication which isn't improving the situation. I would like something more permenant.

If you have ADHD I am surprised it was not diagnosed when you were a child. It can often improve as you get older.

Did you have the rhinoplasty on the NHS? Did you go back to the surgeon?

It's quite common for ADHD to go undiagnosed in infancy as I wasn't exactly born in an era where a lot was known about said disorder.

Yes it was done on the NHS but I never revisited the surgeon I don't even know who the surgeon is tbh.
