Chronic sinusitis

Posted , 14 users are following.

Hi,

As other people in this forum, I have a chronic sinusitis for the last 5 years or so. Early on, I agreed to a minimally invasive surgery which turned out to be useless, scrubbed from frontal cavity and caused a ton of bleeding. That aside, I've been through countless round of antibiotics, visited many high ranking ENT doctors in New York where I live. Same response - slightly deviated septum, previous surgeon didn't a good job of opening the nasal passage, go for another surgery.

The condition is affecting my personal and professional life in ways I'd never imagine. Did anybody hear of revolutionary methods or can suggest alternatives - yoga breathing, red lamp, specific tests to take? I'm an atheist but this infection is testing my beliefs smile

Be grateful for any help,

Eugene

Hi Eugene, after loads of research on sinus, I decided against the op and against constant anti bios. What I found is that diet plays a HUGE part in sinus infections. I am now gluten free, sugar free (I use honey if I need a sweetner), very low dairy and very low carb... I have also taken an antifungal & if I feel my sinus swelling after a small amount of sugar, I take a serrapeptase (an enzyme) tab, which stops the inflamation dead.... "Researchers have found that most cases of chronic sinusitis are not caused by infection but are actually an immune disorder caused by fungus. In a 1999 study, the researchers discovered that fungal organisms were present in the mucus of 96 percent of patients who had surgery for chronic sinusitis, and inflammatory cells were clumped around the fungi, which meant the condition was an immune disorder caused by fungus. They took the research a bit further and in the next study found that a fungicide was effective in decreasing inflammation and nasal swelling among participants suffering from chronic sinusitis. The researchers are hoping the study will lead to the development of new antifungal medications to treat the condition. Although antifungals may be more effective than antibiotics--antibiotics make fungal infections worse--there are other steps you can take to lessen your risk of sinus infections by getting at the underlying cause."  Google diet and sinus and you will find that if you change your diet you will drastically curtail sinus problems, the candida diet or paleo diet will help, as will a good probiotic to keep the gut healthy and curtail candida which feeds on sugar & can live in the nose -  carbs turn into glucose and make the blood sugar levels rise. If I have had a small dose of sugar I can feel my sinus's inflame, same with milk "One cup of 2-percent milk contains 12.3 grams of sugar, more than a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup " and "Grains such as wheat, rye, rice and barley also contributes to the excessive sugar we consume everyday"  Do some research on diet and sinus and give it a go, you may find you have an allergy to sugar like I did. Good luck. L

Thanks Leonie. I read articles supporting your point and will definitely test on myself now. Never heard of serrapeptase.

      I really appreciate the info.

Ave had sinusitis for the part 5yrs, i suffer depression. It started in my first yr In college. I spent most of it in hospital surgery they pumped me full of drugs there which made me Depressed after a couple of years i tried to manage it buh after a few weeks of being fine i get a sinus attack. Managing depression and sinusitis was very hard for me. I eventually graduated clearing all my papers and graduating with my mates buh i graduated with a 3rd class, i gym and swim regularly to fight the depression and started bodybuilding buh the 3rd class degree made me feel so useless am thinking of doing another surgery. Just hope this depression wont finally push me into killing myself.

So sorry you hve this problem. If you have been taking lots of antibiotics you need to replace the good bacteria in the gut that these hvae killed when they killed any bad ones. I would also consider if you have silent acid reflux disease which is causing the so called sinus problems. A deviated septum can easily be put right.

There is not. But actually surgery techniques has improved. I was done the surgery just a month ago by microdebridator that is new and btw american, the recovery was just so fast and I could see they worked hard myturbinates without cutting them. If you are in USA I would go for the second surgery, I did the same I procastinated for several years the surgery but I cannot regret it, I knew all the reasons of the problem and knew what to do.  But, mate what have they done to find the reasons for the sinus, allergies, samples to know the bacteria? You will not find a miracle but you can definetly improve the chances of having a second succeful surgery. Finally, are you having any problem with having a full surgery with septumplast? I think I was at a similar situation and  I had to coordinate treatments and surgery from three countries before finding cure

      Hi Dave,

Thanks for reply. I am not planning to do 2nd surgery any time soon. After seeing a number of prominent ENTs in New York, I am convinced it's not an exact science. Just hearing them explain the surgery to me was infurating. One doctor said "I never heard of sinusitis caused by dental root problems". The other said, these surgeries must be done under the microscope due to the required accuracy. But I am glad to hear you had a positive experience. FYI. I don't know what septumplast means, a plastic correction? Regarding the bacteria, pretty much every ENT said the same. Don't need to test cause it's the same 2 or 3 bacterias they always see. How is this going to help?

I cannot agree with you, if you need the surgery nothing will work. I won't go away but if helps the following tips. Septumplasty is not a plastic surgery it straightens the septum what is part of the surgery as deviated septum may cause turbinates hipertrofia. Were you tested for allergies? Certainly my surgery would have not worked if i had not started first treating my allergy. If you utterly believe doctors in NY are wrong so change location, I believe it works. My allergist specialist is in Dublin and the ENT who performed the surgery is in venezuela and it was the best idea I ever had.

Lots of people have an "operation" on their septum, it is very simple. You are in and out same day very often.

I also know that many still hvae their problems after, or the problem changes to a different similar one.

Nevertheless, surgery cured me. But I have a ct Scan showing turbinates inflated like a balloom. Sinusitis is a multifactorial sickness what it helps you it might not help me. When I see a similar case I certainly speak out. However I have been lucky. I had sinuses literally taken from the manual. The only problem where my doctors who where rubbish but I already sorted out that. smile.
