Ramipril - sexual problems?

Posted , 16 users are following.

I'm on 5mg a day. I've not experienced any of the symptoms that anyone has experienced but I have had a few problems in the 'bedroom department'. Sexual problems are listed as possible side effects on other websites. Anyone else experienced similar problems?

    I have to disagree.

My sex drive has dropped with each increase in ramipril, started out on 2.5mg which I definitely noticed a decrease in sex drive. The Doc has just put me on 10mg and I might as well not bother! Inclinations not there, and I now have trouble keeping it up.

I know its the ramipril as I was ill for a week and didn't take it. My sex drive and 'lead' was A-OK. Now back on it, whoosh back to before. I going back for a change in meds, whats the point in dying miserable?

I am also having problems in the bedroom department , but its getting better !!!!!.

I too started off on 2.5 mg and then 7.5 then 10 mg and sex was just none existent .

I mentioned it to the doctor after numerous visits and he was baffled but yet the nurse said it was a common problem with a lot of blood pressure tablets.

I had to drop down to 7.5 mg due to the side effects (too many to mention ) and still had a problem.

The mind was willing but the body was not ...

The doctor suggested changing my medication but i was worried that i would still have the same problem and more .

This site was good as i could read it was not just me , but others had the same condition

I am now on 5 mg and i can say feelings are getting back to normal thank goodness .

maybe in time the body settles down i dont know ,or maybe its just different doses that causes a problem..

I'm also having the same problems. I'm on 10mg and i'm finding that I can't get a good enough erection for penetrative sex and I'm also finding it more difficult to achieve orgasm. I've tried viagra (after consulting my GP) and that has helped with the erections but not the orgasms. For me, the problem seems to be getting worse. I would be interested to know if anyone else who has experienced these problems has found that they improve or even disappear over time.

I was diagnosed with hyper-tension ( 20/14 ) when I consulted the GP for erectile dysfunction. I was refused treatment for the ED until my blood pressure was brought under control. Within 3 months of taking 5mg daily Ramipril my bp settles at 12/6 - 14/8 . I was given ' cialis daily ' , and the ED problems started to diminish, but at my age I cannot hope to be a high performance vehicle. 6 months in to the treatment my bp has becomme volatile, now ranges between 16/12 and 14/10 and the ED has come back. The GP told me to go up to 10mg Ramipril, then told me to stop altogether, then put me back to 5mg. I have tried all three major ED treatments. In other words , nothing is working, not the Ramipril nor the ED drugs. Does that help anyone ?

message for Hays.. viagra does help on ramipril, but only take the lowest dose, i.e. if max dose is 100 mg just take quarter, e.g. 25 mg, i found that taking the lowest dose really helped with no loss of sensation.

My dosage was increased from 2.5mg to 10mg to bring my bp under control but I am now discovering that I am having ED problems. My gf is very supportive and identified this as a possible cause. ED is not one of the recorded side effects so I can't help wondering if it's just coincidence but I will pursue this with the medical services to get a resolution and record the outcome.

Interestingly the GP pre-empted my symptoms and said that 80% of people don't usually have a problem. He dropped the dose to 5mg as my BP had improved but wanted me to monitor it to get an average. I had begun a weight loss/exercise lifestyle which was probably a contributory factor. I'll see how it goes with the issues and I have to go back in a month. Will post again

Things have been improving on the lower 5mg dose and the gf has been a great help so we are having proper relations now smile. I visit the doctor again in 10 days so we will discuss where to go from there with regard to the BP readings I have taken and the improved ED issues. The BP has been running a bit high so I have kicked alcohol and made more changes in my lifestyle as I don't want to go back on a higher dose. BP is running at 140/80 mostly but is sometimes at 150/90. I had a 133/81 this morning which was good. Off for a 10 mile cycle now!

lucky me, I am on 10mg ramipril, 25mg spironolactone, 75mg carvedilol and 0.125mg toloxin. Not only does this marvellous perscription cocktail keep my ticker humming, it has removed all ability AND interest in intimacy with my lady. Viagra DID do it's best, bit i was still pushing a rope and that was almost a year ago. it's been a serious hit below the belt function wise, but i just don't have the interest. it's not just disfunction, its total sexual apathy. All this of course leads to depression, of course...and guess what THAT does to libido.....!
