hi everyone. i was 13 when i was diagnosed with my scoliosis and i was refered to a surgeon at the RVI in newcastle. i did not go through with the surgery when i was that age but now i wish i had. I am now 19 years old and i am in alot of pain most of the time. i got told i should not be having pain with this condition so i dont really know what to do. i fear that my curve is getting worse as it was only 25 degrees. Can anyone advise me with an answer to why i am getting the pain and if otheres have had this and if so how they deal with it and also if the operation helps with the condition.

Thanks x

    Hi haig.

I've got scoliosis in the lower part of my back, considering the rest of my spine is pretty straight, is say that my condition isn't as bad as yours. But nevertheless pain is pain!

I've been through hell. I've had therapy, with pain specialists.exercise regimes, you name it!

But at the end if the day the pain always comes back. In December I am going off to have a diagnostic procedure in my back. They basically have my back on x ray while they man over about in my back with a local anaesthetic, where they target my pain areas that I have, they inject something into those nerves, and deaden them so I don't feel pain when I move my lower back.

They did say I might have to have it done twice though.

Then they put me through emitting transmission therapy for extra relief just in case I might get it back again. Crickey! I hope not when I've been through all that!

But anyway Haig I would go and get advice from an osteopath get a referral to see one from your GP see where you go from there.

The back surgery is very evasive I know that much.

But I hope there is a better solution for you than surgery.

God bless let me know how you get on.😊

      Hi,

I was going to a private physio who really helped and understood my condition and helped me cope. Unfortunatly this is no longer my option and this was never going to be a long term fix for the curve.

I have been for mri scans and bone scans to try and get to the bottom of my pain but it didnt show anything on why i was in pain.

I hope your procedure goes well but i am not sure that this will be for me as i dont really like the thought of having to maybe go through the same thing again later on.

I am going to have to book an appointment to see my gp and sort it out from there as i really feel quite lost and unsure on what to do.

      thanks

      Hiya Haig.

I see you have been to an osteopath.

Your best bet is to go through your GP again for sure. I hope they get you sorted out very soon.

      Take care Liz.

Hey, I was diagnosed at 6, had my operation at 15 and I'm now 19. Before the operation I had two very bad curves so I was in a lot of pain and I couldn't deal with it. I just wanted to let you know that having the operation was the best decision I ever made. I am now in no pain at all and my life has improved so much. So I would encourage you to have the operation as there is a very high chance that it will result in you being pain free for the rest of your life. If you want to know more about my experience then feel free to send me a message I'm happy to help smile from Isy x
