hello
i was admitted to hospital 3 weeks ago because my heart was racing, they took blood test and a ecg and sent me home the next morning saying i had had a panic attack.
a couple of hours later my doctor rang me to say they had sent me home before they had my blood results and there showing my thyroid is overactive so he started me on 20mg of carbimazole a day and 20 mg of propanalol 3 times a day. i knew nothing about overactive thyroid and i myself just thought i was having dizzy spells and panic attacks.
after 2 weeks my doctor did a blood test and my results are t3 - 9.3 t4 - 41 and my tsh is 0.1,
i dont know what my first results from the hospital were . is two weeks into medication to early for another blood test?my doctor as increased my medication to 40mg of carbimasolel a day and 40mg of propranolol 4 times a day. i am booked in to a endocrinology in a weeks time.
can anyone tell me when you stat to feel better?
i have no energy to do anything and just sleep most of the day.

It will take a few weeks for the carbs to start working as your body needs to adjust and get rid of the access hormones your thyroid is producing.
Have a good read through the above thread as we have/are all been through the same thing and are all hear to help.
Try not to let it worry you once the tablets start to work your symptoms will become less.
Take care baz.

Having an overactive thyroid will make you feel awful. Your T4 is too high and your TSH is too low which shows that you are overactive., but once the Carbimazole starts to work you will start to feel better. The endo told me it would take about six weeks, but I felt loads better long before that. The propranolol will calm you down so that will help too. I know it doesn't feel like it at the moment, but you will feel well again.
I don't think two weeks is too soon to have another blood test. I had them every two weeks for a time, it's better to have them often when things haven't settled down yet.
I'm sure the endocrinologist will explain things to you when you see him next week. Make a list of things you want to ask him. If you're anything like me your mind will go blank.
Keep in touch and if we can help don't hesitate to ask. I hope you feel better soon.
Take care,
Marigold

Hi
I'm knew to this site. I'm in my bed about to cry. I was diagnosed with hosimotos ten years ago. About a year ago my thyroid went lower and lower until just the other day my dr took me off synthroid. My tsh is 0.02 and I'm having trouble functioning
Is this very low or am I just anxious about feeling speedy?? I'm also very nervous

I actually saw the endo today not anyone from her team, who was fantastic, she said that I am very hypo with an undetectable T3 and TSH of 35.
She said that most of my weight is water retention which will go very quickly and the other symptoms will be greatly reduced if not gone within a month when I can hit the gym again.
She actually held my hand and said it's ok you are not cracking up anyone this hypo would feel dreadfull and I burst in to floods of tears. She did not bat an eyelid and advised i go home and have a glass of wine because I am going to feel so much better and might want to celebrate it. How cool was she, what a shame they are not all the same!
Hope everyone else is ok, hope Barry your nose gets sorted and Kat you should get thyroxine before the weekend. Marigold, Sue, Dave and Bess how are you.
Debs, welcome, I havn't felt like you do for ages, not pannicky for months now but it took me a few weeks for the carbs to get going initially. It was the others that helped me massively to try and make sense of it all. Marigold have you got any snippetts about taking the levo?
Take care

What dose of thyroxine has she put you on? I was told to take it before breakfast so I keep it beside the bed and then I don't forget. I must admit some mornings I have to ask hubby if he's seen me take it. I've got into the habit of taking it now, it's just automatic, and then I can't remember. I maybe need some more tablets for my memory. I'm sure you'll feel better very soon. I feel great, I think the big difference is feeling so calm. Take care.

i read that 3-4 Weeks are required for the drug to take effect as the thyroid may have large stores of hormone which must be depleted... so hopefully in that time you should start to feel much better.

Thanks again, took my first one this morning they are 100's is that what you were on? She said to take it for 3 months and see my GP if I feel hyper (chance would be a fine thing). I feel excited at the thought of getting better though.
Deb, my neck came up on one side just after I started taking carbs too, it then went up and down for a while, sometimes it was quite big and other days very red. The endo said it was just the concentrations of chemicals fiddling with the thyroid and your body reacting. It has gone completely now, I have had rai but there are no lumps and bumps. I was also told about my body having thyroxine stored the same as ev so that could be a factor too.
Good luck with it.

2 weeks later and I now feel dreadful. Tired, spotty, fat (1stone heavier than I've ever been in my life, and 2 stone heavier than in december 11 - I am still piling weight on and eating hardly anything), my tongue is numb and my tastebuds have vanished, palpatations are back, and so is the sweating. I'm due to go on a very special holiday in 7 weeks time - the big 4-0, and an extra special family treat that we've been saving for a long time for. My new holiday clothes don't fit, I look a mess. I stopped all medication on Saturday. Today is Wednesday. Went to see the GP yesterday and he said my thyroid may have become underactive. More blood tests next week. I didnt tell him I've stopped all medication. I've had enough, feel totally depressed. I need to lose weight and feel better again and fast. I wish I'd never gone to see the GP in the first place.
Can anyone offer any advice? Or does anyone feel like I do?
Thanks for listening
Dee

He is a 53 year old and has been diagnosed with Hyperthyroid about 6 weeks ago. He is really struggling with the symptoms, the one he hates the most is a racing heart. It makes him weak and anxious, obviously. It comes and goes but has been quite prevalent this last 2 weeks. He is on Carbimazole but started off on a low dose, then after a blood test 2 weeks ago he was told he had to up his does, still having the racing heart, weakness, lethargic etc. He is a manual worker so not brilliant really. This week he had blood test on Monday and they told him it was improving but as he is still struggling with the racing heart I spoke to the Endo specialist and he has up;d his carbimazole again until he sees him in another week now.
How long before he feels well again is really all he would like to know, does the heart calm down? He worries that this is damaging his heart.
Thanks
Angie

Perhaps the doc could prescribe beta blockers which calm the heart beats down. Call GP and enquire. I know people who have hyperthyriodism and were put on beta-blockers for a while such as atenolol, propranalol etc. but a side effect of beta-blockers is tiredness and lethargy acording to the dosage. Hope this helps.

A side effect of beta blockers is extreme tiredness. You are on a high dose. I was on bb's for a while and I was constantly exhausted...Speak with your GP about the tiredness and side effects of bb's.....hope this is of some help....best wishes...
