just been told i need a full hysterectomy

had a scan was told had blood filled cyst ,was sent to a specialist ,scaned again and was floored when was told had a cyst,fibroids,polups ,and prolapsed wombe ,despratly trying to process information and make decisions as to what options offerd by specialist to take, emotional over load and information over load ,any one had similar experianc or can help with any advice most welcome right now i was not expecting to be told i would need a hysteretomy ,have 2 grown children and am in my mid 40s but has still strugling to get my head round it all

    I think you have a choice here and do not have to go along with what you have been told. Too many doctors seem to think that women want hysterectomies and don't consider that some women want to keep their wombs. A hysterectomy increases your risks of osteoporosis and heart disease in later life. Hang on to it as long as you can. My mother had a major prolapse in her 70's and was offered the chance to have it put back, but to my dismay chose hysterectomy instead. I had no choice, as I was diagnosed with cancer last year aged 52. The operation was a lot easier than I thought, but I am so sad I had to lose this organ, which had never given me any trouble before. Hang on to any parts of your body as long as you can, especially if you are pre-menopause.

      thank you ,my gut feeling is to hang on to my womb as long as i can ,the pain is getting to a point that my planning my day week amd mounth is now planed round it so fear it might not be an option ,have a bi opsie booked and was a bit in an emotional wirl and information over load last time i met with specialist ,but have come to the concluson that a laporoscapy might make things cleara in my mind as to what is going on as i understand a scan dose not show clearly what is happening so will ask about that next week ,i have never had an op and this one being so big with so many pros and cons has thrown me so far out of my commfort zone i can not process information quick enough i feel to make educated choices as to what i want to do

    you've had 2 scans and different  consultants? come up with same diagnosis.

    i know its a shock to the system but at least you've got a diagnosis.

    if you were to make a list'for and against' you would come up with a positive answer 'for'.

    you might as well get shut of your uterus in one go.

    research carefully if its worth hanging on to your other ovary and cervix.

    i cant get a proper diagnosis.

    gynnos have taken a polyps but say probably was not cause of my pain.

    gastro intestinal saying my scans are clear.

    3.3 years down the line no further on.

    everyone i know thats had hysterectomy ses its best thing they did.

    of course that op comes with various reasons.

    get your head around it in your own time.only you know how much pain you are in.

    you cant believe this is happening to you, can you.

    your kids are grown up so you can take this step now.

    its not gonna get better without some kind of intervention..

      sorry to read 3.3 yrs is a long time to not have a diagnosis ,i was back and forth to gp for many yr no one was listening just gave me more tablets and the usal come back if it dose not improve so i did but never got any joy ! till november when i was finaly sent for a scan ,but never expected this ,when was told i had a cyst thought that makes sense and thought that it would be drained and that would be that ,but it has just snowballed ,everyone i have asked that has had a hysterectomy has said the same you never look back but i can not see how this can be the thought of an early menapause scares the lfe out of me the thrown into it bit and the health issues ,with stuff in the news about HRT and strocks dose not seem like a fare choice at the moment

    I have recently had similar news . I am 49 with grown up children . My symptoms have been so awful and life limiting ( the bleeding - oh my god !!)

    My op is scheduled for 21st april and i now cannot wait to have my life back .

    If its dragging you down and diseased then remove it ??

    It tales a while to

    Process but try to think of all the positives.

      Iam struggling with positives i know i have had pain and bleeding for so long i am so used to working my life round it ,its a bit of the devil you know going on with me being thrown into a full on hyserectomy scares the life out of me ,I have a bi opsie of my wombe booked for tomorow not feeling very brave so wish me luck ladies
