is pain normal?

I’m 18 and have been suffering with extremely bad periods for years, I always have pain in my left side and it’s even worse when I am on my period. I’ve been diagnosed for nearly a year by a private doctor that specialises in teenage period problems (not the medical term I know). I was then discharged from that hospital and told if there are any more problems then I should speak to my GP. I was still having the pain so I went to my GP and was referred to have an ultrasound, the ultrasound came back that I do have polycystic ovaries and that there was free fluid in the POD. I was referred to the local hospital where the doctor had told me that it’s not polycystic ovaries and that it’s IBS; however I am not at all convinced that is the case. I still suffer with the pain is that due to the polycystic ovaries or not? Could anyone please help me?

Hi. Is the pain in your side about waist height? I suffer the same thing, on my left side mainly. When I had a scan a few years ago, the nurse said my pain wasn't due to PCOS, it was in the wrong place! I think she was right. I'm finding several people who have PCOS also have IBS or diverticulitis. The latter is what they thought I might have. It's basically down to what you eat. I'm not gonna lecture on what you should or shouldn't eat.....it's a personal thing. What one person can eat another might not be able to. If the pain is right down near the groin then it's more likely to do with period pain because the ovaries are that low down, I didn't realise how low down they are. Hope this helps.

Hi, I was told it was ibs but I've kept a food diary and nothing triggers it. It's in my groin and it's more extreme when I'm on which is why I Thought it was period related. I'm not sure what to do anymore. Thank you anyway smile
