After going through a very scary time, I wanted to post a comment on here to provide some information and hopefully reassurance to anyone who maybe going through the same thing. I am 27 year old and experienced abdominal pain for four months. I thought it was perhaps IBS but something inside just didn't feel right. I went to the doctors with symptons of abdominal pain, bloating and needing to wee a lot and after feeling my tummy, the doctor referred me to have an ultrascan.
My ultrasound didn't go as well as I wanted as the sonographer found a 6cm cyst in my right ovary- they found an unknown nodule on this and said she was concerned and due to my age would fast track me to the specialist. This appointment was two weeks away and the longest two weeks of my life! Before my appointment I was told to have four blood tests, one of which was for the ovarian cancer tumour marker ca152.
Two weeks had passed and my stomach pains had got worse, however I now think this was down to anxiety. I saw my consultant today who told me all tests came back fine and no cancer has been detected- phew! The cyst is quite a simple cyst and although 6cm, it may go away by itself. I have another appointment in 2 months to review the cyst. The nodule was not a tumour, I still don't quite know what it is but it could be anything from a hair folical or skin tag.
Although everything turned out well for me I wanted to write this so that if someone is going through having a cyst with an unknown nodule- it's not always cancer. I think a lot of people jump to the 'C' word and I am very guilty of that. So if this post reassures just one frightened person, it was worth writing
