Urgent help needed, colonoscopy

Hello, please can anyone advise me. I had a sigmoidoscopy last Thursday. It was a disaster. Despite taking the moviprep as instructed and restricting my diet for 2 days and drinking 12 pints of liquid i was told my sig had failed and was poor because i had solid stool in my colon.

Went home feeling ashamed and dirty, ate lots, ate a lot on Friday, then was phoned in the afternoon to be told i had received a booking because of a cancellation and i would be having a colonoscopy on Wednesday afternoon.

Well, have been restricting my diet since saturday, actually feel sick with hunger but i am thinking of cancelling the appointment. Reason being i have not been to the toilet. Keeps running through my head the nurse saying i was full of stool but nothing coming out and if i strain it is just a brown stain on the paper.

Have taken a max strength senokot but nothing happened. Due to receive citrafleet in the post in the morning but scared that if i am blocked up with poo then the citrafleet may not get through and will back up or i may make my constipation worse.

Help, am i worrying for nothingor should i cancel. I have no idea why the moviprep i took failed to clear me as i had been having daily bm until i took it and on the Tuesday went twice and they were a 3-4 on the bristol poo chart.

If you've taken the medicines and followed the instructions you've been given to the letter then if your Colon isn't clean afterwards that's not your problem smile

Please do not cancel the appointment until you have an honest conversation with your doctor to address your concerns.

I had a very similar situation many years ago with an unsuccessful sigmoidoscopy, He then sent me off to another specialist who did a full colonoscopy with excellent success.

I don't know why your doctor is asking for a colonoscopy, but it is likely that he/she is doing so because of the lack of success with the sigmoidoscopy. If you were impacted for the sigmoidoscopy, they will likely try something that works more efficiently.

I have to have a colonoscopy every other year, not fun at all, but I have a good doctor I trust, and I will tell you that every now and then he will say something like... "there was some fecal matter...". They don't like that, but it is all part of the experience. The instrument they use suctions it all out anyway, so it is really of no consequence. And it happens with every patient they have.

If I were you I would follow the directions the office gave you, but you really shouldn't have to limit your food intake until Monday if your appointment is for Wednesday. . If you have any problems, concerns, unusual symptoms, please do not hesitate to call your doctors office.

Another option might be to find a doctor you are more comfortable with, but don't put the appointment off.

Thank you very much Benny and mc1. The citra fleet is another name for picolax, supposed to be much better.

I have been told i have IBS and the nurse who did the sig said she only wanted colonoscopy done because sig failed.

She had to stop the sig as she was causing me so much pain trying to force it through. One nurse did say the linseed i took a week earlier might have been the problem as it was still there.

My g.p did not want me to have a colonoscopy, felt certain it was un needed, the hospital are the ones who have said i may as well have it as i have had a sig.

I am absolutely NOT a doctor and have no idea what your condition is.

All I can tell you is that a colonoscopy will give you a lot more information.

I, too, have IBS. This fact hasn't much mattered to my doctors, even though in literature it always says to inform your doctor if you have that condition.

Good Luck. It sounds like you are doing all you can so my only advice would be to consider all your options and you will figure it out.

    Hugs! Good Luck!
