Hello Steve.  Before you had this done did you get information on it and the side effects.  There are less the the turp but anytime they cut away at your prostate your going to have proplems.  I guess your that 1% who knows if you will get it back On your Viagra what MG are you using maybe you need a higher dose.  I hope you will get it back.  Have you had your Testosterone check maybe it to low.  I would talk to my urologist to see what give you should not be going thru this.  I was not going to have anyone cut my prostate.  It was the size of a lemon.  I pick to have a urolift it has been 5 week and all is well and I am on no mefs.  Take care and keep getting at your doctor.  He's the one that did the surgery  Ken  Im 59

Hallo Steve. I am one of those people who had a perfect life until I went to my doctor for a medical checkup. He took some bloodtests and told me to go and see aan urologist as my PSA is 3.8 and it is too high. The urologist did the tests and told me that I have an enlarged prostate and that I need an operation. Everything will be excactly the same I just wont ejaculate anymore. I was worried and told him if there wasnt any other thing that we can try. He of course said no ! the other things dont work and I musnt worry as the sex and the feeling will be exactly the same. Well.....Nobody could prepare me for surprise  the first time I had sex after that TURP. I coulnd't believe how pathetic the climax was. I went back to my urologist and he immediately prescribed Levitra and testosterone for me , but I dont understand why he said that everything will be ecxactly the same and now I need 20 mg of levitra where Ive never had any problems before the TURP. Anyway It didnt help at all with the climax.  Well its now 4 years later and Ive never had a good climax after the TURP again and I also know by now I will never have a good climax in my life again and there is nothing that I can do about it. . I went back to him and Ive confronted him about it until he told me to get myself another urologist as he had never heared of anybody who had that problem after the TURP. He probably never did any research as Ive never seen any other medical prcedure with so many negative complains than the TURP and sexual function, and Im not even a doctor. On the other hand he did the damage now  so no other urologist can undo what he had done. The problem that I really have is that all the research thats been done have shown that there is no problems sexually except for RE. I only know of 3 people who had the TURP and not one of them think that the climax is remotely the same so I wonder who are doing this research as I think that a lot of medical research are sponsored by institutions who have to get the results that they want.

Hello Wally..........     I feel sorry for what is going on with you.  Once they start cutting the prostate the problems will start.  There are many diffrent procedures for a enlarged prostate.  I don't know why doctors today day tell you a turp is the only way to go.  It's not.  I'm glad I have the urologist I have.  After trying many meds with the side effect I did not care for .  One was a dry orgasm Which hurt my bladder.  He told me about the urolift.  He now I would not go for any cutting or burning of the prostate.  I had it 5 weeks ago and fell great.  It worked well for me.  There is all way that 10% that the turp will give ED.  I was reading a post on here about a 58 year old that the doctor told him about Green light laser.  There is only a 1% change of ED.   So being in good health he had it done. Guess what happen. He is in that 1%  He can not  have sex at all and at that age we are suppose to be enjoying life.  Once it don it permanent.  With all the research there should be able to do something natural Not having another procedure like a pump.  But it is something.  I would check with another doctor to see what if anything they would do to help.  I will also try to look up information for you I hope we can find something  Try to relax and don't worry  Ken

Kenneth, about Urolift. I think PAE is the best way to go but it is not covered by Insurance yet. But Urolift sounds like a good alternative with no scrapping , burning or cutting. Some questions.

      1. Is Urolift, at a later date, able to be snipped off and removed? (If PAE ever became available to me I was just wandering if Urolift could be undone and removed if it was a hinderence to a PAE procedure.

      2. Do you ever feel like you will dribble or leak after peeing with the uretha now fully opened from the Urolift or do you feel normal even after the Urolift? (I am talking about unnormal or larger than normal dripping or leaking because of the Urolift.

      3. Do you feel the "pins" that have been shot through the prostate in any uncomfortable way in your day to day living?

      4. Are there any adverse or negative feelings with the Urolift pertaining to sexual activity? Any erectile problems, reverse ejaculation, pain or wierd feelings from what your norm used to be before the Urolift?

      5. Did your Insurance (if you have it) cover the procedure? If not do you recall the cost of this procedure?

I know its a lot of questions but any response would be very helpful. Thank you Ken.

Hello Peter. Had alot of the problem before I had it done. It is 6 weeks. no problems at all. It take 4 weeks to heal my doctor told me to wait a couple of weeks to drive to GA to visit my grandkids no problems at all driven went to pee 2 times in the 8 hours. My erologist is great He put in 4 implants to keep it open. I don't feel them at all. I am on not pills. sex is fine I do have a problem with hardness but that was from before i had it done. It was cause from a nurse forcing a catheter in me last year. He mestup a couple of little veins a the top of my penis but it still works. My orgasm are good. Also no dripping at all. Before I was not emptying my bladder had 5 infection last year and was in the hospital for sepsis. Yes my insurance paid for it. I would try anything before having them cut anything. Also Did you read the post on Chuck He have the PAE done cost him $10.000 and it did not work He's going to have the urolift done next month. He send me a e-mail and we chat all the time E-mail me anytime Ken

Ken, thanks for all the info you shared. You say insurance covered the bill. I assume you live in America with visiting GA (Georgia?). I live in New Jersey and presently have Aetna Insurance. I called them to see if they covered PAE and it wasn't even in their code system. I haven't called them yet about Urolift. I may be looking for a new Urologist. He does not even perform Green Light Laser surgery so I doubt he does Urolifts. I have an August visit scheduled and will find out then. What was your recovery like? You say it took 4 weeks, seems long. I drive a car every day for a living (Salesman). Right after the Urolift procedure were you in pain? Confined to bed? Would you have been able to drive and move around right away or do you really need to cool it and stay home?

I live in Orlando Fl. I have Well Care. Well the doctor said 4 weeks. My son took me home a hour after it was done. The only pain I had was from a catheter. You don't have one with the Urolift but. I have a problem peeing on demand. So my doctor ask if it was ok. I never had one ( horror story about me in the hospital They never ask or told me what they were doing They just came in and took my pants off and force one in The RN try 2 times He did damage some of the little veins in my penis. Never got it in the bladder ) I told my doctor it was ok just as long as he was doing it. ) I rested the first day in bed The next morning I drove by son to court for jury duty. I had some pain peeing after they took the catheter out 2 days later but the 4 day I had no pain at all. I am on no pills and I sleep all night its great. My urologist has done more then 100 in the 3 years it was approved by the FDA Like I said Chuck on here had a PAE done and it did not work he also said he had a bad time with it. He lives in OMAHA He found a doctor in Illinois to do the urolift on the 15th of July. His insurance does not cover it. Check into it before you have any procedure done. If you can have a procedure that they don't have to cut away at your body the better it will be for you. Take care Ken

Ken, thanks so much again for all the info. It has been really helpful to me. And I do agree, the less cutting inside the body is better for us all !  Ciao.

Thanks Kenneth1955. I just think that a urologist or any doctor should be legally responsable to tell a patient of all the different options and what the pros and cons are. But you know that I think even with  the research thats been done I really dont know why the urologist medical council or whatever body who take the desisions cant see that the procedure doesnt allways work for everybody. You know I thought that my urologist is a specialist and that I should trust him. Now I think that if any specialist tell a patient that everything will be the same and then it isnt then he should be held responsable but now , if the research have shown no problems at all then  what chance do we have as patients. The only reason why I write tthis actually is to let other future patients know that some doctors would only tell their patients of the procedures that is the best for them and not nesassarily for the patient.

Alot of the urologist just say what they know and what they what you to hear.  Thats why they push the turp.  Nothing is the same when they cut away at your prostate sometime it work and other just have to deal with it.  The patient has to deal with it not the doctor.  It is never the same they need to stop saying that because all men are diffrent same work wekk and the others are done Ken
