Bisoprolol and neuropathy and other side effects.

I posted on 'Bisoprolol and tendons' recently and had a reply from Toniallen who more correctly diagnosed my problem as being neuropathy rather than tendon related.

Two weeks on from my post and having stopped Bisoprolol the loss of balance has gone and the loss of feeling in my foot is gradually improving.

A recent search on bisoprolol and neuropathy brought up this artice

    Hi Derek, I am so pleased to hear that you're feeling better now that you've stopped taking Bisoprolol. That is superb information that you managed to find. Enjoy feeling the carpet under your feet. When the sensation came back for me I was shocked, because the build up had been so gradual that I hadn't realised how much sensation I'd lost. I found it took a while to build my strength again, so be patient. I hope you continue to recover and enjoy life.

      Thank you, it is improved but not better. I had a session with a podiatrist yesterday and like all the others she just said'neuropathy' we can't do anything for that.

      They're moderating my last reply because I added a link. I know an acupuncturist who specialises in peripheral neuropathy. I added a link to his website so that you could read up on the treatment he offers.

    Thanks for the info you posted. I read it before it was removed! I too have suffered side effects from bisoprolol...ie..difficulty standing...felt I was gonna fall over, hardly could walk, and a heck of a backache. After changing to atenolol and now having reduced it to about 8 mgs, I can stand,walk, think,not falling asleepimproved vision but my back is still troubling me! Much better though.

      You're welcome. I had such severe side effects I'd hate to think of  anyone else suffering. It started off with me being unable to lift my feet properly and they dragged, then I lost the ability to command my feet to walk. I thought I was going to end up in a wheelchair. So glad you found a suitable alternative.

      At least Mr Moderator has left a link to the article. I find it stange that something available for all to read on the internet could pose a copywrite problem. 

      Two weeks ago like you I could hardly stand or walk. I had taken Bisoprolol twice before without such bad side effects. I have previously found that side effects can differ when taking the same drug for a second time. Atenolol was the first BP med I was prescribed many years ago and for me one of the worst for side effects.

      I do wish that someone could explain the differing side side effects that we suffer from when probably the majority of users have no problems.

      The biggest problems I've had is that several of my GP's and a cardiologist would not listen to my problems when taking bisoprolol and now,atenolol. Only one listened out of 5, over the past 5 years. I'm a tad angry,because I've suffered really bad side effects for such a long time. Only through reading posts here and online have I pushed to reduce atenolol. As I'm not in the medical profession,I'm somewhat worried that I am putting myself at risk. But,hey,on the positive...I'm so much better and more like my old self. Wish I had confidence in my GP! Hope you're feeling better too.

      I would be very grateful if you could possibly fwd it onto me by PM as I too have PN and am taking Cardicor daily. I am unable to tolerate this much longer.

      I agree.

      Different brands of drugs can have different mixes. I am unable to have certain brands usually the generic brands that are cheaper.

      Sorry,but I haven't used an acupuncturist. I have A/F...persistent! I always can feel my heartbeat racing....very disconcerting. It's a feeling of being anxious all the time. I was put on biso and suffered the side effects for 4 yrs,even though I had mentioned it to my doc and then the cardiologist. The upshot is that it was changed to atenolol. I've had similar side effects. It's been reduced to 25 mgs and there is a definite improvement...in the side effects. I don't know if my AF will be worse as a result. I'm now cutting it to 12 mgs. It's been difficult. Withdrawal has been very unpleasant. Recently I had a blip,my BP was very high as was my pulse. I rang to make appt at my docs....2 weeks to wait,but was offered an appt at the primary care at our local hospital. Got there to find a nurse,not a doc. My BP was much better,so she said it's a problem when it stays high,mine had come down. Got to have a BP monitor check. Fed up,but just wish I'd never taken biso or atenolol and just got on with losing some weight. 

         Ive put on 4 stone since biso ,feel constantly tired ...though not as much as  when I was on biso or full dose of atenolol. At least if I lose weight I am in control!

      Thank you for your kind words and also for the info.

      I did not associate my signs and symptoms to biso but to antibiotic toxicity. Howeber I notice that afteer taking cardicor my signs and symptoms increase that is the burning increases. It is torture and I feel unable to tolerate it much longer. I just wish that I could turn the clock back   about two years and get my life back.

      Do you avoid acidic foods and drinks I find that they make everything worse.

       Does your btm feel as though you are sitting on rocks?

      I do and it is driving me mad.

      No antibiotics in my case! But have you read all the posts on biso. Thankfully I found this site. I am more enlightened now even though  haven't got the answer to my problem. I think I will have to go private. I too want my life back.......5 yrs of treading water, no answers,no discussion and fobbed off with medication that I believed was helping. Take care.
