Nerves affected after achilles rupture

Hi.

My achilles tendon ruptured about 10 weeks ago, I was in a cast for just over 9 weeks. It should have been a shorter time but I had to have an ultrasound scan which the hospital initially messed up and then my foot wouldn't go into the semi equine position properly.

Anyway on Tuesday (28th July) I went to see my consultant. My foot wouldn't quite go into neutral but it was getting there. It was decided that I would go into a moon boot and I could start physio. My foot (especially my toes) has been in severe pain since, it's quite swollen and I'm getting limited or no movement in my toes. I'm concerned I might have a trapped nerve. I also can't get a definitive answer to how long I'm likely to be in the moon boot? My first physio appointment is 11th August.

    Hi, i had the surgery option and it has worked a lot better for me. I am not quite sure how you would trap a nerve doing nothing with the foot. With the length of casting time i am guessing you didnt have the op?

    All i can offer is that having had a cast on for a month as soon as i put the moon boot on my foot hurt like hell to walk on.

    It terms of time with this on it varies from 5-10 weeks i think depending on how aggressive the doctor wants to be. i wll have it on for 8 weeks to lengthen and most importantly strengthen the tendon again

    Vicky. I am stunned you were in a cast for 9 weeks, especially if you were non op. I would suggest that the pain and swelling is due to lack of movement over the past 2 months. Even when my boot came off after 8 weeks (non op & in boot after 3 days post accident) I had 2 weeks of major swelling. Keep going and stay positive, all I have read so far is that everyone reacts differently, but we get there in the end. I think I have been fortunate being under a specialist in Cheltenham General NHS that prefers rapid rehab with boot for 8 weeks and weight bearing and walking in boot after 3/4 weeks to keep the muscles working and more movement than a cast. Stay positive but be demanding of your medical team. Ask questions, demand answers.

    I hope this response is not too late. I had only just come across it. I am having problems with ruptured tendons and tendonitis due to antibiotic toxicity and being floxed. I wondered how tou had gone on over the problems tou are experiencing with query nerve pain?
