waiting for neurologist appointment

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have had weakness in my left arm and hand for about 8 months which is gradually getting worse. I have found it almost impossible to do up buttons, hold a fork etc. Then I had a bad fall 8 weeks ago and again today. I seem to be unable to lift my left foot properly when I walk.

I have been to see a specialist who ruled out carpel tunnel. He checked the muscles in my arm using electrode things. He said I need to have an MRI scan so got my GP to refer me to a neurologist. I am still waiting for an appointment and I am so worried. I just need to be able to talk to somebody because my husband and family get upset with me.

I am 59 years old by the way.

I am so sorry that your husband and family are not able to support you during this worrying time.  You may have to wait a while for an appointment with a Neurologist if my own experience is anything to go by so in the meawhile try to take things at your own pace and don't push yourself.  The MRI scan is nothing to worry about, just noisy!  It will give your neurologist lots of information to help diagnose your problem and hopefully resolve it.  I wish you well.

Thankyou Patricia, I have been waiting for my appointment since March so I hope it wont be much longer. My husband and family are just really worried but get frustrated with me because I keep thinking I have MND and they dont want to think about that.

It's frustrating having to wait so long to see a specialist, there must be a shortage of neurologists.  I'm sure all sorts of horrible possibilities go through your mind especially when you're lying awake at night as I'm sure you do.  Hopefully you'll get your appointment soon, stay strong a bit longer - easier said than done, I know.

I'm sure you've thought about it, but have you asked your GP if there is any way to speed up the appointment?  You've certainly waited a very long time.
