You want to go to a jointt and bone specialist, not a podiatrist, look up their experience and I am sure you will find a good doctor, good luck to you!! smile

I wanted the best doctor like yourself so I went to a orthopedic surgeon, joint and bone specialist, who only does feet, at Columbia Presbyterian, one of the best hospitals, some have done their surgery with podiatrists but I wanted to go to a experience joint and bone specialist,

Yes I do live in New York, and I had the, Lapidus, which is the more, serious and a longer healing process, there is the, scarf which is, less healing time and the bunion plasty even less, you really should start visiting doctors I visited three before I made my decision, not that I have had problems but the healing process limits you, and you need to be patient, right now it's been 3 mos. And it's still swollen because the foot has been through alot it takes time, good luck to you, I hope this helps you!

I did only one, I didnt want to be totally dependent on people, one at a time was enough for me, my foot couldnt touch the ground for 6 weeks, so the bone could heal.

Why you decided for the Lapidus I when to New York to meet Dr Neil blitz this doctor does the bunioplasty operation but hi doesn't take insurance  I  am only hearing terrible story with the Lapidus looking for less invasive

I'm in the bunion group on facebook and I disagree. Most of us that had Lapidus have had positive experiences. It was my only choice given my bunion size, hypermobility, and the degree my toe turned in.

I don't live in Miami so can't give you a specific name but go to a podiatrist! my mom works in surgery and a podiatrist is much better its their speciality and that shows.ive been very pleases with mine! good luck

Hi Ariana-   I have written a post on this site before but can't find it about the new procedure.     I have quite a large bunion on the big toe on my right foot which is starting to push the second toe over a bit now.     Since I have heard about the latest and more minimally invasive procedure which is done by keyhole surgery and a lot quicker recovery time, I am waiting till I find a surgeon that does this.   I am English but live in Australia and they don't do that operation here yet, but they do it in England, Germany and America.    From what I have read a lot of surgeons are training to do this now, but I have checked up and no one in Australia does it here yet.    I could go to England but it would have to be done privately and would be quite expensive as I would have to find accommodation over there too.   It is done in a hospital in Hove, Brighton and the doctor is called Dr. Dirk Nowak (European Foot Institute) and now it is done in the government hospitals.   As soon as I get the opportunity to have it done this way, I would'nt hesitate.    I do not want to go through the archaic operation they do at present so am just waiting and hoping that there will be more surgeons shortly that will have been trained in this more simpler and less traumatic method.
