21 days Tramadol free....

I have to say it was a really rough beginning, but much better now with no desire to go back to that terrifying place ever. I do, however, miss the energy and feeling of well being. I have heard that an Excedrin Migraine with a hint of caffeine and a 100 mg 5 HTP capsule can provide similar pain relief and energy. Does anyone know if this is true?

Good job! How much were you on?

75 mg three times daily, but it became toxic to my system over the 18 months I was taking it. Very scary.

Interesting....Can you describe what you mean by toxic?  I've been on it for almost two years, but only 100-150mg a day.

In the last couple months of taking my prescribed dose, I started feeling differently. Kind of edgy at first. Then one night only hours to f my last dose, all hell broke loose. Nauseous, panicky, anxiety, spiked blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, sweating, chills all at once. So I stopped the Tramadol from that point on. I was experiencing symptoms of Serotonin Syndrome which then escalated to hyperthyroidism, all of which produce symptoms similar to withdrawals. I was ready to check in to a facility because it was so bad.

Wow, not good!  I'd like to get off it, especially since I started taking an SSRI and have also noticed a few signs of serotonin syndrome.  Not sure if there are any good alternatives other than taking opiates, which I'm sure my specialist will discourage.  Good for you for being off it for 21 days though, that's great!  Any time I stop taking it, I miss it and am really anxious and edgy.

Please be cautious. I have found that doctors don't seem to know much about the dangers as of yet. And all we have is each other to help and share REAL LIFE experiences. Please be careful with mixing those two meds. I wish you well in your health.
