Worried Tension headaches everyday for a month

Hi,

I've had  headaches everyday from morning till the evening for around a month. They usually get worse during the day and I do think that I may be suffering from unresolved mental health issues. I do have a lot of anxiety at the moment from a bereavement that I havent coped well with.  I went to the doctors because I got myself worked up and convinced i was dying. She said that it must be tension headaches because I dont have any other symptoms like nauseau/sickness/vision problems/ balance problems/ eye problems. I also explained that when I raise my eyebrows it hurts and she said its to do with the muscles. She gave me 10mg of amitriptyline to try but i am still worried. How can I have headaches everyday all of a sudden? Does anxiety cause that bad headaches?  In other peoples experiences has amitriptyline helped? I can't stop thinking that something bad is going to happen ( i am well aware this is probably irrational but i cant stop worrying)

Thanks for your reply. I've been to see a neurologist who said that they are Idiopathic Primary Stabbing Headache as there are no other symptoms apart from either a short stab or a series or stabs lasting up to 5 seconds which come behind my eye. The Idiopathic part means that there is no known cause for them.  I have been prescribed Indomethacin for two weeks only to give the Amitriptyline time to kick in. Do your pains wake you at night when you are asleep?  I am unsure as to whether the Amitriptyline alone will alleviate the pain and would love to know from other sufferers if it has been successful for them.

I went to the ER and they told me i had fluid in my ears.. Which I think is load of crap.. They prescribed me a steroid (prednisone) and a pain pill.. Tramadol. It relieves the pressure a bit but I'm gonna do a follow go with an ENT specialist to get a second opinion.

I have had 'tension headaches' for 3 years. It affects my head, face and teeth. I wa on Amitryptyline for a year and it helped but then the headaches came back. Am now on Nortryptyline which is a similar drug to Amitryptyline to see if that will help. I have been assured that I don't have a brain tumour or anything serious but it ruins my life at times. I have tried all sorts of other therapies and cranial osteopathy, yoga and physiotherapy seem to help best. Worrying will only make things worse as you tense up and the muscles contract. I hope you find relief.

    HI everyone

I have tension headaches too sometimes, though they have been better lately and not every day like they used to be.  However, one particular thing in this thread caught my interest which is Amitryptilene, could anyone tell me how they have got on with it?  I discussed it with my gp yesterday and we decided not to risk it for the time being as I'm on citalopram as well and the two together might cause hypomania (I'm bipolar II).  I can't take anti-inflamatory painkillers and am on a very low dose of codeine (under supervision), which helps a lot but we we were discussing other options too. Would be interested to hear if any of you have anything to report about the effects and side effects of Amitryptilene.

    Thanks

    Lizzie
