These symptoms can be from extra-oesophageal reflux.

Go to DownWithAcid org uk and scroll down to find the chapter on Extra-oesophageal reflux below the main Reflux heading in the contents list (hoeme page) for the description of what's happening. Subsequent chapters deal with management of the condition.

I experienced it all my life. 60 years ago, as a 7 year old, I had my ears syringed weekly to no avail - except fpr the scars I still carry to this day.

I was on 80mg omeprazole for a few years until I had reflux reduction surgery and it gave me my life back.

I seem to have all the symptoms or most anyways. The only issue is that I did have an endoscopy done and it showed I have esophagitis and a hiatal hernia. It says that people with NERD don't have esophagitis unless I misunderstood that which is very possible.

Oesophagitis is caused by acid erosion so Non-Erosive Reflux doesn't cuase oesophagitis.

However NERD is still reflux and all reflux can cause the extra-oesophageal symptoms. With acid, reflux can be more damaging which is why the acid suppressants are necessary.

hi paul i too have a hiatus hernia.when u say ear plugging do u mean the sensation of your ears popping? mine constantly feel this way worse upon lying down.also i suffer with my throat feels like im constantly swallowing and wen i lie down feel like i am going to choke.my specialist has put the throat problems down to three things 1,hernia 2,being overweight 3,snoring!!!! i take 40g of omeprazole and gavison after meals..i feel ive come to the end of the road to be honest ive had virtually no help with my symptoms and i do believe was i to loose weight my problems would still be the same but i know the doctors have to have some get out clause when they have no solution for your problems good job i dont smoke eh!!!!!! good luck with finding a solution to yours i just hope you see better doctors than i did!!!!

My ears ( mainly my right but sometimes both ) feel plugged and at times feel like they might be draining. Doesn't matter if I lay down or not as it happens either way. Sometimes there is even a little bit of pain and my throat my even feel a bit sore but nothing un bearable. I do feel like I have to swallow alot which I believe is called water brash?. I am worried that I have throat cancer but I know the odds are I don't but my anxiety always goes to the worst case scenario. I too have been told to lose weight, I am down about 5 pounds now and I am hoping to lose 30. I already have generalised anxiety disorder so this is just taking over my life right now. Thought of cancer is consuming my thoughts even though I know logically that that's probably not the case. I'm only 40 and a father of 5 ....ugh!

I hope you find some answers and relief, I keep reading about how doctors just either don't care or don't seem to know. I am going through some of that myself. Wish more doctors cared and worked hard for their patients.

Hi Paul I am waiting for the hh operation like you I have the ear issue but worse for me is having a blocked nose at night it's just like having a cold I've had to use nasal drops for the last couple of years or I can't sleep it's basically like having a cold every night I've been told it's caused by the stomach acid not sure how true that is.

I have not dealt with the nose issues you are dealing with but I have heard that's in common from other forum discussions. Hopefully your operation goes well and all your problems go away.

hi ian i feel exactly that i constantly blocked up.which drops do you use please? ive tried a couple but they dont do anything for me

Hi Michelle I us drops from Home bargain only cost a pound they do the trick for me after a couple of blasts I used to use more expensive drops but had nose bleeds as they were stronger and aren't meant to be used for a long period of time. Do you wake up chocking sometimes unable to breath I panicked when it first happened that and the sinus issues are my main reasons for wanting the operation I feel things will keep getting worse.

My doctor suggested seeing a specialist after an endless amout of tests it's lead to the op I had a pre-op in February but am still waiting good old nhs I have given up calling for a date now my life is on hold waiting.

Unfortunately this operation is classified as "elective" rather than "emergency" or "essential" which puts it at the bottom of th elist. However, you are supposed to wait no more than 18 weeks. (Though that clock is reset at each stage.)

Hope you get a date soon.
