MRI and Biopsy results

MRI scoring for risk of prostate cancer is apparently from zero to five and I was a 3. Thankfully the biopsy results were negative. They think the MRI results were down to inflammatory cells caused by Prostatitis. I stll have this, possibly made worse by biopsy infection so now back on Ciprofloxacin for another 10 days.

Interesting that the urologist I saw said that TURP for him was a last resort, when you are barely passing urine or have other complications. He didn't recommend Urolift or PAE as he felt still too early to judge success rates, so TURP is his prefered solution but as a last resort.

I explained some of the downsides I am getting with Tamsulosin and he recommended a trial switch to either Viagra ( or Cialis? ) as they have appear to have some benefits in improving urine flow. Interesting.

    Did you ask him "why" the turp is his "last resort"????   If its the supposed "Gold Standard" then why is it the "last resort"???  I have had a "PAE" and a "UROLIFT" WITH NO SUCCESS AT ALL.  Don't really know what Iam going to do next.  I have't tried the "Cialis" thing yet, what "exactly" does Cialis do???   I thought it was designed to give you an erection.

      TURP is not minor surgery and comes with risks, therefore last resort in his view.( Last resort was my interpretation of what he was saying ) Gold standard because ultimately it improves urinary flow in many cases, whereas urolift and PAE relatively unproven. I think many of us patients also see TURP as a ' last resort '. Cialis appears to also improve blood flow around the bladder and prostate and potentially urine flow but as with all of these things depends on your individual circumstances. Lots of info on the Internet about this.

    Cialis daily 5mg can help, in my experience after over 2-3 years it is not as effective as it seems to wear off, not sure. Cialis in higher doses is used for erections I believe. I would give it a try, your Urologist might have samples or you can go online and if he gives you a prescription Cialis manufacturer will send you a sample of 30. You can even just go to your pharmacy with the precription and they will honor the mnufacturere "coupon"

    Another thing you can try (Urologists will not tell you about it my GP did) is a baby dosage of a medication that lowers your blood pressure, forget what it's called but that somehow helps flow. Maybe it's called "minipress" Be careful I almost fainted when I took it the first time. But it does help.

    I have had two biopsies and four trips to the ER for retention. PSA @ 8.9 and I now cath myself when I can't pee. I have also tried the TUMT approach and that was a waste of effort since it lasted only nine months.  I have had the same discussion with my Uro and his position is a little more for the TURP having the same opinion about Urolift and PAE but the possibility of ED and RE are to much for me to deal with at this stage of my life. I have tried Cialis for about 45 days and was having some success until it caused a serious acid reflux problem. My trial with Cialis was with a couple of sample packs (insurance does not cover this med and it is to expensive to continue anyway) so I too am back on the tamsulosin. So I would say try the Cialis 5mg and hope it works with little negative side effects and you have insurance coverage or the funds to support it long time.

      You can order Cialis from reputable pharmacies in Canada if you have a prescription, actually a generic from India but it is safe and works just as well if not better. Not much more than $1 a tablet. But you have to be careful to get it from one of the legitimate pharmacies.

      you're welcome, make sure they require a prescription, if they don't they are a scam.

      I just stopped by my "local Pharmacy" -HyVee in Omaha and they quoted me $327.00 for a "ONE MONTH SUPPLY" of the low dose 5mg cialis.  I said to Ken my Pharmacist "NO THANK YOU" as my Insurance BC-BS won't pay a single dime of it.  Ya, this Obamacare sure has lowered the price of Healthcare in this country!!!!!!!   Ha-Ha-NOT!!!!!!

    PAE has worked for me but everybody is different. 

    My maximum urine output has increased from 120ml to 360ml only 7 weeks after the PAE procedure. Although flow rate has only improved slightly, the bladder now empties completely and I no longer need to visit the bathroom during the night.

    My urologist told me that if the PAE is no longer effective some years into the future then the other treatments are still possible as a last resort.

    Make sure the tamsulosin is out of your system before taking viagra or cialis because mixing them can have nasty side effects.

      Had no problem switching tamsulosin 0.4 to Cialis 0.5 and switch was per Dr. consult. But that is not to say all will respond similarly.

    Remember, your urologist will NEVER recommend a PAE because they make no money on it.

      There is one Urologist in Boulder, CO who recommended that I do PAE. Eventually they will all have to adapt when the procedure is proven by case studies. Or find better ways than what they can do now.
