Colonoscopy complications

Need advice, had an attack of diverticulitis mid dec, hospitalised in Iv antibiotics, this was the first time I had even heard of this disease let alone that I had it !, anyway recovered from that with planned colonoscopy which I had yesterday and was found to have moderate to servere divirticular disease, today though I feel I am having a flair up, severe left sided pain tender to touch and low grade fever 37.9 and I just wondered if anyone else has had this happen ? Hospital say it's coincidental ? Doc saying another course of antibiotics ?

Really not sure. Tia xx

Defo sounds like a flare up. Did you get bloods checked to confirm poss infection/inflammatory levels? I would defo take the antibiotics from your doc and follow a strict liquid diet and plenty rest till things settle. Hope your feeling better soon! Big hugs and sympathy coming your way! Its horrible! Take care! Xxx

No bloods taken but woke up this morning and felt the tell tale signs just wasn't sure at first if it was due to colonoscopy yesterday ? Oh well back on the antibiotics it is then :-/ was due to start my new job today aswell but couldn't. Guessing everyone is different but what's the likelihood of theses flare ups being a regular thing ? Or is this just a blip on this new journey ?

Thank you for your help and advice xx

It cud also be due to your colonoscopy yesterday but think your doc is suggesting antibiotics just incase its an infection. Flare ups are different for everyone and some may experience frequent attacks (me), or a few per year. Our bodies are all different and react differently to certain foods. Its learning just what you can and cant eat that can become a lengthy process based on trial and error and afraid pain as well! Lol! Just take things easy! Your main concern is getting yourself back to being as well as you can before going back to work. Take it easy and hope your better soon. Xx

Hi. You definitely need t take the antibiotics and go on a clear fluid diet for a few days. Give your colon a chance to recover. Keep a food diary also to see if you have a trigger food. Hopefully you've been told to try and avoid seeds, nuts, pips  and sweet corn.   There is a group on Facebook which have been a great help to me. Stay well xx

Thank you angi1 not been told anything and have had to do searches myself for info so know the basics now, have been given a leaflet which gives brief advice but realising that it seems to be very individual as to what sets it off, like you said a food diary is a good idea so will get on that. Keep well yourself xx

It is trial and error. What works for one doesn't for someone else. I've cut out beef, salad, white bread and processed foods. Also some people say probiotics are good. Going to give them a go. Got a sigy scope on 14th hope to find out more then xx

Yes I read that about probiotics so got some today especially as I'm back on the antibiotics which by all accounts wipe out all bacteria in the gut.

Good luck with the test and hopefully you will get some answers xx
