Tolerance withdrawals from Tramadol

Has anyone experiencing withdrawals while still taking their Tramadols. I feel I'm in withdrawals. I'm on 6 X 50g Trams a day, I've tried to withdraw from Tramadol now for 2 years, with no success. I believe I'm now tollerent of this drug and I am having withdrawals while still taking this amount daily! Obviously not as bad as when I have tried to ween of them gradually, but defiantly the same symptoms as then, enough to make me bed ridden!

I didn't find that I has WD symptoms but did find I needed to take more of them each day to keep me feeling energised. IMO they are a med which should never be used long term, but instead kept to just a few days during acute periods of pain. Tramadol acts as an anti depressant as well as a pain killer, and what it gives you comes as a cost. It raises your seritonin levels which makes you feel happier, but every 'high' (feeling normal and well) has a 'down', and yes, it is easily possible to experience tolerance WD on tramadol. My advice to you is to very slowly taper off the tramadol or risk a downwards spiral.

Yes your right about the high! Felt fantastic for 4 ish years, got back to work in a energetic job, got promoted to senior carer! Was told by the hospital doctor that I could stay on them period, as I have fibromyalgia. I reached tolerance at 5 years of using Trams and got to maximum dose 8 X 50g daily! Now feel so unwell on them, and yes, very low mood, body aches, hot and cold sweats, headaches, itching, sneezing, got the lot and still taking 6 X 50g 😭

Oh you poor thing. I really do feel for you. I was on tramadol for a couple of years because I have a severe allergy to NSAIDs. They were just doled out to me in packs of 100 whenever I wanted them. I thought they were a wonder drug as I had so much energy and was so productive. I was never told they were addictive. It was only when I didn't take them one day because I was going to my specialist and wanted to be able to accurately describe my pain, that I realised how addicted I was to them as I could bearlly function that day. One day I couldn't find them and became paranoid that my husband had purposely hidden them! It was then when I realised they had turned me into a 'junkie' and I had to get off them. It took several weeks of careful tapering off them to be free. It was hell as I still had my horse livery business to run as well as care for two children. But I did it.

However, the whole thing left me with very severe clinical depression. You see, they trick your body into raising the blood levels of serotonin, but this then depletes your reserves and you are unable to function normally with a normal amount of serotonin once the tramadol is not controlling the release for you. Your body has lost the ability to maintain its own levels. I was forced to go on anti depressants. That was over four years ago and now I am tapering off the ADs. I'm virtually off them now and feel fine, but tramadol was largely responsible for that four years of more drugs.

But anyway, this is why you need to taper off the trams VERY slowly, to give your body a chance to start working for itself again. I would talk to your GP and explore other pain management drugs, but just do all your research on sites like this before taking them. After all, it is only just recently that the NHS has classified tramadol as a controlled drug, even though us patients have known for a very long time just how addictive and dangerous it can be. Good luck, and please keep us posted x

Yes, that's exactly what happened to me. It is an indication that it has become toxic to your system. Seek the help of a doctor. I was unaware that I would experience withdrawal symptoms, so when all of the panic attacks and anxiety began, I got scared and stopped cold turkey. It wasn't until nine days later did I learn of the effects of doing it that way. But I made it through. And whatever you do, refrain from using alcohol. It will intensify the withdrawal and prolong it as well.

ruth86511, thank you and the others about the info pertaining to the negative effects caused by Tramadol . Because of all the stink caused by people who have no concept of the pain some people have to live with my Dr. is now wanting to take me off oxy-codone that i have successfully used for over two years with the minimum amount of negative effects . A caffeine headache for a day or two is the worst that happened to me aside of the pronounced return if the pain in my lower back . I am going to ask my family Dr.to recomend a pain management specialist to try to help me. I am going to dump the quack that wanted me to get on this tramadol as soon as possible . I have not asked this Dr. nothing more then to help me with the pain and lack of sleep .

At any case ruth86511 i wish you the best there are alot of people like us out there at least we can lean on eachother thank goodness.

Yes, your right, its all us people in the real world who have tested all these pain meds that can relate to them, can't help thinking that we are all human guinie pigs! Lol

I wish there was a way we could transport doctors who don't comprehend the extreme withdrawal symptoms into our bodies and see if they could cope! Xx

I agree and add the health insurance companies to that list. When I was at the absolute worst going through the horrific withdrawal symptoms, I reached out to an addiction facility for help. I was told that my insurance company wouldn't pay for any treatment because Tramadol is not considered an addictive substance. Treatment was $11,000 per week. Imagine how that made me and others like me feel. HORRIBLE!!
