Tinnitus !

I had been on Amlodipine for 6 weeks, when I decided to stop taking the medication. Within 6 hours of taking my first tablet of Amlodipine 5 mg, I experienced dreadfull hissing and ringing in my ears, this continued for the entire 6 weeks., after which I stopped the medication. I have now not taken Amlodipine for three weeks, but still have dreadful tinnitus. Does anyone know if this is likely to stop, and how long after stopping the drug,can I expect it to go on?

Any ideas as to how long the drug remains in the system?

    Never ever stop blood pressure medication without the advice of your doctor.

    Quite frankly, I'm very surprised you would quit the medication after taking just 1 tablet. The tablet never had a chance to do its job. The ringing in your ears? I doubt very much it was caused by just 1 tablet, AND would persist for weeks on end.

    I think there's something else going on here...get back to your doctor.

      No Mike, I didn't take just one tablet - I took one daily for six weeks ! Thank you for your advise - booked to go shortly !

    I know some people experience 'side effects',  but the vast majority manage without getting any.  Tinnitus is not listed in the data sheet - so I would also recommend you go back to your MD/GP and get it checked out.  For the record I have been on Amlodipine for over 15 years without any 'side effects'.    Best of Luck - John
