Post operative frozen shoulder

Posted , 6 users are following.

I have recently been diagnosed a frozen shoulder after having arthroscopic decrompession and acromium shaved.

I am now at week 9 post op and have been unable to drive normally due to a poor range of motion and discomfort. I drive extremely small distances..1-1.5 miles.

I have had one steroid injection but he did state it may take 2-3 until I feel the effect.

I have to rely on family to help me dress and undress at times and do help with hair and to run errands.

I am just wondering what the next stage for treatment is...I just stick with my exercises that I have been given and pray for improvement.

This forum is very informative,a little frozen shoulder community. Thank you

No physio yet as specialist says it will aggravate my shoulder.

I live a very basic right at the moment...I am unable to work full time as I can't drive, work have been wonderful as they allow me to do a few hours a week from home.

      I think driving aggravates it.

I don't know if he would suggest a mua as I have only had an op on that shoulder recently.

Thank goodness for online grocery shopping!

I have to agree with driving i work in operational law enforcement not police, hadvto be put on very restricted duties so i couldnt work from home, as for my car i hadcto change it to something that i could drive i think surgeons/ consultants are reluctant to do anything until it comes out of the painful stage it is debilitating its an awful condition i had a goid chat with my surgeon they dont know what causes it heavy lifting repetitive movements, hormones, diabetes but he said little is known. i had surgery last week where they removed scar tissue and various bits i have better movement jusy your normal post op aches and pain but feeling much mord positive now 😊hope you get sorted soon mytboughts are with you as said its a difficult painful condition xxx

Their was another thread ti the frozen shoukder forum yesterday where on of others was saying their orthopaedic consultant said no physion in the painful stage it makes it worse and most people have said physio makes it worse, the cortisone injections dont work for everyone but some they do . Its not a nice condition and ive never exprienced such pain. i had one incident at work where they treated me likeci was sherking until someone placed a saucer on a plate inopened the cupboard with my good arm grabbed the plate and saucer fell of itcstill makes my eyes well up thinking sbout it. But natural reaction was to catch the saucer OMG the pain i nearly passed out and cry for hours the pain was excruciating. The pain is worse of a night time kept me awake i ended up on Morphine oromorph and tramadol just to get sleep so tired all the time, i also found hot shower running over the shoulder helped, hot packs xx

I'm currently on my second FS, first was my left shoulder, after two op's its now pretty good and hardley any pain, my Right FS is killing me, i'm three months in and the pain is horrendous, i'm still working, still driving and doing everything i can because i refuse to give in to it, i sit many nights and decide between a bottle of booze or more painkillers as the lack of sleep is really getting to me, it seems so much worse this time maybe because its my dominant arm.  Totally had enough to be honest, fed up.......i had an appointment to see my last surgeon on Tuesday but was cancelled because of the strike so have to wait another 9 days......this is the worse thing ever and we really cannot so anything about it, fingers crossed i get the Sub Decompression and MUA done really quickly, i know what to expect which is a load of physio afterwards, didn't work for me last time so had another MUA 12 weeks after which worked......:-)

      Hi Karen,

That is my consultant said it has an 80% chance of happening to the other shoulder with in 12 months the right is a bit niggly but hes unsure as it may be over compensation from the left shoulder x

I got told that for thwo months that it was over compensation but it wasn't, i got maried on the 5th Feb and thank god the pain held out, we went to florida for three weeks and it started really hurting but movement wasn't too bad, now can't move it at all :-(  this all happens so quick, sounds like you could be about to go through the same, sorry x

Hello and welcome. Unfortunately it takes quite a while to recover from FS.  I'm nearly a year in now and it's been extremely tough. I had steroid injections last week and am hopeful that I will get some relief now. This forum is great. We all support each other because we know how desperate this condition can be. Mind yourself, you are not alone X .

A brief update....I have to organise an appointment to have a ct guided cortisone injection into the joint and I have been given a script for lyrica.

A recent MRI has shown the obvious frozen shoulder and has shown subacromial bursitis??? But I have only just had an op a few months back for this?! So confused now.

Ha77 The one thing you do not have is a frozen shoulder. You have a post operative stiff and painfull shoulder. It may be as stiff and as painfull as a FS but it is not. I am looking at the anatomy and the sub acromial area is not at the capsule which in FS shrinks. You can not stretch out a FS at nine weeks but I see little reason why not a traumatised one. FS is caused by a genetic reason, not the 34 conditions you read about on blogs. Make sure you do what I do and that is get yourself a qualified manual PT therapist. Each country or state or shire will have a list and google them when you find him or her. Mine do gliding movements of the humeral head  before long lever stretching, makes a huge difference and little pain.

Forget what you see on exrays or MRIs, it's a proper examination that gets the

diagnosis and results. Looking on the web at recommended FS exercises, most mobilize the shoulder blade which has a full range anyway.. Tell your therapist you want the joint to glide and roll, not to be exercised like a lever.
