I've got an infection. Hooray.

The doctors here in Argentina are very cautious, so before my second cystoscopy coming on May 14, I had to take a new battery of tests including an ekg and urine culture.   

I had a urine test for my first cystoscopy last month but this time my doctor ordered a urine culture which shows a urinary infection that hasn't been noticed before.

I have no idea if I will feel better after we treat it but I want to post this information because some else might get enough relief that they can avoid a turp or other procedure.

    Not clear about your chronology of your test and culture, but is it possible that you picked up the UTI from the first cystoscopy? This frequently happens. In any event, hopefully treatment will  improve your condition although you might have an asymptomatic uti meaning that treating it may not change how you feel.

    You're probably right but I'm still hopeful.

    I had food poisoning last August, it inflammed my bowels and most likely my bladder.  I started getting up more and more at night.  It levelled off at about 8 times a night.  A couple of months ago I had a cystoscopy and was diagnosed with stenosis of the bladder neck and slightly enlarged prostate.  

    I began researching treatment options and communicating with a Urolift specialist in the US.  He wanted to see films of my bladder and prostate so I scheduled my upcoming cystoscopy.

    Recently I went back on flomax and am getting improvement.  I'm very close to being at a level that I can live with for awhile.  I'm getting a 3 or 4 hour block of sleep most nights.  

    I think I may not be a candidate for Urolift and cutting my bladder neck may be my best option.  So if I can get a little more improvement, I might be able to postpone treatment.

      If they cut your bladder neck then you will probably have permanent retrograde ejaculation (dry orgasm). Do you have that on Flomax? If so, that is what you can expect permanently. Some men aren't bothered by it.  Some are.

      If you can wait, newer treatments are being developed. One less invasive option now being offered is PAE. You might want to read the discussions on it.

      What is your IPSS (International Prostate Sympton Score)? Only you can decide when it's time to pull the plug on meds like Flomax and have an operation. But if your symptons aren't too bad, watch and wait might be the way to go.

      Flomax gave me them I hated it   I felt like there was something missing  That is why I had a uro-lift.  If you have a uro-lift done you will not need your bladder neck cut.  Don't let them talk you into it....The urolift will take care of the problem...Had mine a year ago and still going strong  Ken
