2 years of stomach pain & mucus!

For almost two years now I've had an upset stomach, a constant what I would describe as a 'dull' pain in my lower stomach. When I go to the toilet there is what I believe to be called mucus, like jelly stuff and most recently I have noticed blood but that was two weeks ago now. My bowel movements are very irregular from 4 times a day to maybe 4 times a week.

- Sensation of feeling sick (never been sick)

- No weight loss

- No appetite

- No acid

I've had tests and a camera down my throat into my stomach and nothing was found. The pain I experience is moderate, I can handle it but sometimes it does become severe. I've been to see a specialist and was tested for H-Pylori and did a barium swallow and all was well there.

My symptoms are more or less the same as yours and the time that I have been suffering. All the above apply and also bloating, back ache and more severe pain when I lie down. I've had a colonoscopy and other tests and they are saying its IBS and possibly microscopic colitus. I' ve tried various meds including Mebeverine, Buscapan and Colphmin but they didn't help. I now drink peppermint tea and my diet is very restricted, many eating fish. Just hoping that further tests (waiting for MRI scan) will determine what the cause is and that they might be able to treat and ease symptoms.

I also suffered shortness of breath, so stopped smoking and alcohol buglers up my system for days so I've have to abstain. I wish I could get my life back and feel for anyone who's living with all this. Not sure that this will be of any help for you, but sometimes I find that just knowing that it's not just me helps. Take care.

If IBS is the cause of your symptoms, it will not show up on the MRI or on any other scans.  IBS is very hard to treat because everyone is different.  Once you accept your diagnosis, your symptoms will ease because the anxiety of not knowing what is wrong will be gone.  Your doctor seems confident in his diagnosis, so I would trust his opinion.

    Hello. Liam,

I had the same symptoms for 6 years. My pain was my lower right side. It really got me down I used to spend most weekends in bed in tears. It was a dull, tight pulling like pain. The only relief I got was to put accushion onto then laying on top of the cushion to create as much pressure as I possibly could. I has test after test with no diagnosis ever found. Eventually I had my appendix removed after that didn't help a year or so later they then removed both of my ovaries at the age of 28. I would have had my arm removed if it meant I would be pain free. After returning to my doctor and been referred to the hospital I just got fobbed off saying I was a medical mystery and needed to learn to live with the pain and given an appointment to see a doctor at the pain management clinic. To live with this horrific pain for so long was really getting me down I couldn't get out of bed, I was in tears all of the time. This then lead to severe depression. eventually I went back to my GP who put me onto antidepressants and took blood tests to see if my B12 was low. I got a call from my GP a week later telling me to go into the practice immediately. When I arrived I was seen straight away and told I had no thyroxine in me and was put straight onto Levothyroxine and was then under the care of a consultant. After a couple of months when the thyroxine had kicked in I was stunned to find my pain had totally gone. No pain what so ever. After all these years and unsuccessful operations. I was a different person I had me back but was also heartbroken that I had, had both ovaries removed meaning I could never conceive naturally and I didn't have any children and now couldn't ever have my own baby. It was bitter sweet for me which I've learned to live with but I think about it ever day. I didn't know just how important the thyroid i, the engine of your body that controls everything. 2 years on and I'm a different person and still totally pain and symptom free. It's mybe with a trip to your GP to ask for a blood test just to check your thyroid. I hope you get this sorted and soon as I'l know how miserable it can make you x
