30mg on mirt for a month. Could this drug REALLLY have made my anxiety worse?

Posted , 5 users are following.

So, my anxiety was worst after week three to week five. Upped dose end of week four.

I have lost weight, not out it on, and I reckon it's increased my anxiety and given me a slight shake at times. Sight can feel a bit odd s

Hi there was put on  Mirt in Dec 2015 to help with anxietyy and it never helped from the start.  I started at 15mg and worked up to 30mg where sleeping and anxiety got worse.  I am weaning down now and sitting at 11.25 for 5 days so far and still no relief.   Maybe check back with your doctor.  It does help some people and others not so much which is why I am trying to get off it.  It does help with sleep.

Hi I went from 15mg to 30mg in March and about a week in my anxiety got worse. It seemed to lesson about 2 weeks after upping the dose. It has never helped my sleep and one of the reasons for being switched to mirt in February was because I was showing a recurrence of anorexia. It hasn't helped this and I've lostt a lot of weight in a couple of weeks. I was told to up my dose 10 days ago to 45mg and am now going through the same heightened anxiety but still no desire to eat anything.

I've also had several migraines recently- never connected the two but as I didn't have them regularly for 10 years before starting mirt maybe there is a connection.

Reading all the posts here everyone seems to respond differently to meds. I saw a specialist last week and he wants new to go back after 4 weeks on the higher dose although I was told it should take about 2-3 weeks to have an effect. I'd suggest going back to your doctor if you feel your anxiety is worse as they might be able to add a temporary relief for anxiety- I have a small supply of diazepam to help if needed.

I hope you can find some relief soon

Verrrry intresting ssk1. I am intrigued by your findings and observations. Very similar to me I must say.

I will certainly look to pregabalin for support. But having seen the cost the GP is less likely to prescribe them.

How you feeling now? has Mirt stopped the Anxiety? I hear in here that it never totally goes away. Its always lingering in the back of the brain space type thing.

At the moment the Mirt hasn't helped my anxiety really although I am coping without taking diazepam although sleeping is a big problem. When I was on 30mg I did think it was helping alongside CBT Therapy and I was feeling quite positive. The problem I have is that my husband has terminal cancer and was admitted to hospital 2 weeks ago and had to have 2 major surgeries so obviously this made my anxiety much worse. That's why my dosage was upped but it's hard for me to know at the moment whether it's the mirt or my husband's illness making my anxiety worse or possibly a combination of both.

I am finidng the CBT Therapy really helpful and feel that it is having an effect on my overall mood and ways of dealing with my anxiety. Are you having any form or therapy or just on meds?

Still waiting for cbt. They seem to be very busy.

I'd say your experiencing anxiety from life's events which isn't attenuated very well by the mirt. But only you can know I think. I say that because you knew how you felt and how you feel now after the re admission of your husband.

I have nursed two dear friends with terminal cancer and can understand your thoughts.

I reckon your doing pretty well! And you just hang in there! Take each day as it hits you.

      Thanks Neuron

I hope you get to start CBT soon as I have found it to be really helpful. Not sure my anxiety will ever fully go away but it has me deal with some situations a lot better so I hope it works for you too.
