lanzoperzole and pain

I just thought I would share my story with everyone and hope in someway it could help anyone else out, as this forum really helped me out only a few days ago. I am a 27 year old male who apparently suffers from acid reflux, back in October 2014 I had really trouble swallowing any food to the point where i was nearly choking on something so small it became scary i went to the docs and he said it could be acid reflux and prescribed me lanzoperzole, after a few days I started to feel pain in my neck really bad, i went back to docs and told him, he said he doesnt know what it is so I was sent to an ENT specialist who told me I had a nose infection, no big deal a month of antibiotics and then an another appointment to make sure all is well. infection gone I asked him about the pain in my neck which to his words were " take painkillers", that was 20 months ago and I still take them now, co codomol 8 a day. The pain as got worse to the point my life as basically been put on hold, throbbing pains in my neck and severe headaches. After going to docs and constantly being told they don't know what it is, i've been sent for a balirium swallow, physio, muscle specialist and a gastrologist. Nothing was helping at all, until I thought it could be my acid reflux that was causing the pain but surely it cant be if im taking lanzoperzole and codeine. How the heck do I have pain if I am taking the right meds the docs have prescribed for so long. On Monday I stumbled on this website and realised that lanzoperzole do have side effects and can cause my symptoms, not one doctor said this to me, no specialist, no one, just this website. So after thinking it could be lanzoperzole I stopped taking them and although I can feel the pain dimming and hopefully going away, I was suprised I was getting prescribed both the painkiller and pain giver. lanzoperzole does have side effects and can do your body harm, I have also changed my diet to healthy stuff, salads and non citric fruit, these calm the acid down I have been told. I have also booked an appointment to the docs to see if there is any alternative to lanz, as before I started on it I had acid reflux but it didnt affect my life as much as it did when I was on it. I also take a peppermint tablet which are also good for acid.

So if you have pain with taking lanzoperzole you can try not taking them for a few days, eat healthy food and see how your body feels. It helped me, I am no doctor but I know the pain and this helped me.

    There are other PPIs. They are all as effective as ech other in reducing acid when taken in equivalent dose. (See attached graphic.) But some people report side effects (like headaches) on one or another. That's when to try a different one.

    However PPIs may ot reduce refux which may be your problem.

    Another consideration is prolonged usage of painkillers, particularly co-codamol, can cause headaches etc. Personally any hint of codeine gives me terrible stomach pains so I am limited to paracetamol. (Fortunately I have a high pain threshold).

      Thanks for your reply I shall talk to my doc about these alternatives although omoprazole also did the same, I too thought it was something with the painkillers so I tried keeping of them for a few days but the pain was unbearable, since i have come of lanz the pain as very quickly diminshed soon the painkillers won't be needed. Before I had all this I didn't take any meds nor visit the docs as i wanted my body to be able to deal with little nags and what not but with this and the sheer amount of times i've been to the docs i'm pretty sure he thinks i'm stalking him ha

    Codomol long term use is far worse than taking antiacid tavlets etc.

    Taking pain killers long term stops your own body from fighting pain etc and can cause loads of side effects. I would 1000000% come of them and slowly.

    Antiacid tablets can have side affects but usually well tolerated only small side affects, bloating, headache, feeling weird etc. But in most part won't cause pain in your neck etc.... Antiacid can cause pain in stomach and lower back...

    Stop pain killers they will kill you them things.

    Come of pain killers....

      Thanks for your response, I completely agree with you, I do not want to be on codeine that's a definite, I don't want to be on anything, like I said after a few days I will be off them completely, I was very nervous about taking them at first as I heard so much about prescription painkillers overdose etc, thankfully at the moment my pains seem to be drastically reducing thus no need for the painkillers and hopefully a pain free time and getting back to my normal life.
