Nerve degeneration

I may have mentioned this before, but Iv`e been diagnosed with insufficiency in the nerves that supply my bowel, which makes it very difficult for it to empty properly. This results in leakage after bowel movements, & that`s so annoying. What I`d like to know is, is it possible to wake up the nerves & make my bowel function normally again?

    Try asking your Doctor about a Sacral Nerve Stimulator, they are a small gadet a bit like a pacemaker. They sit inside your upper buttock just under the skin and have four leads attached to the main nerve which supplies the bowel. They set up programmes to stimulate the nerve, you have a little remote conrol so that you can turn it up to suit. Sound like the ideal solution for your situation. I attend a specialist centre for mine at Southampton Hospital. There is one in Bristol, not sure which part of the country you are in.

    Yes it is😃 ask your doctor about a sacral nerve implant . I have one and it's a small implant in your buttock which works similar to a pacemaker. it stimulates the nerves to work better in your bowel, look it up online , good luck

    Catherine it may be worth asking to be referred to a nerve specialist - would that be a neurologist ?(not sure if thats the official name) or a colorectal surgeon or both, to see what options they can give you. xx

      I`m already under a colorectal specialist,& he has mentioned the possibility of SNS, which involves implantig a device to stimulate bowel function.

    Hello Catherine,

    thank you for letting me know about this sacral nerves stimulator.

    i have researched it and there is a trial period if applicable then a permanent model is installed.the one i need is for urinary retention. It can also stimulate the spinster nerves. I was so worried I would be on a catheter once the flow-max medication is now starting to fail. 

    Also there are quite a few restrictions no MRI, ULTRA SOUNDS etc. see online restrictions while wearing a implant .

    I wish you the best of luck. And thank modern research for all the new devices invented to give us a better quality of life.
