Hey I'm 17 years old and the other night I noticed my throat felt weird and I assumed it was anxiety which I have really bad!!! But then realized it wasn't because it never stopped since then so I went to ER and they diagnosed me with LPR most likely!!! And this has being really hard for me with having hard core anxiety it feels like there's a lump in my throat that barely subsides and it's driving me up the wall it's currently 3 am and I can't find any comfort for sleeping. Any advice would help I speak to a psychiatrist in a few days.

I know how it is s, the lump in the throat is awful! It can also be an anxiety symptom as well as LPR. I know it's difficult but try to not focus on it too much

    Hi Kaleb

Would you consider having or have you had an endoscopy to let them have a look into you throat and oesophagus it might help put you mind at ease.

I too am suffering with that awful sensation of a lump in my throat like

a blob of wallpaper paste that I cant shift and also some hoarsness.

I have had a camera down last week showing some inflamation and hiatus hernia so I am on PPI one a day. I know that mine all started with horrendous stress last April. Stress is absolutely the very worst thing for reflux but its so hard to calm it all down,,

Try taking manuka honey in your cereal it might help coat your throat and maybe ask you Doc for some calming medication like low dose valium until things settle

let me know how you go, and remember you are not alone we all suffer this awful afflication together.

    Wish you well

    Kate

Thanks for replying i'm actually gonna have an endoscopy done soon and have further testing to make sure it's LPR! But as the days go I get more symptoms such as heart burn and indigestion all day, and I'm always feeling like I have to burp.

hello there, you are very young to have all these & I perfectly understand where you are coming from. these are all stress related. whilst following your doctors advice you can find time to divert your attention to sports or music or a hobby, take time for yourself and enjoy life. what i find very effective against globus sensation ( lump in throat) is simply to ignore it. what i do is warm compress by applying heat pack or when you are in showers run the warm water on your throat then listen to some calming music if you wish. mine comes and goes but worst when i am stressed. tske care for now.

So as an update of how I'm feeling today has been a pretty good day starting to get worse I try to distract myself from the lump in my throat that's pretty much there 24/7 today I was prescribed Zoloft for the anxiety that comes with LPR hopedully this helps I'm taking multiple medicines now too deal with it. I'm gonna have further testing done on my throat within the next month!!!

In addtion to having your endoscopy done, I would also make sure that they check out your thyroid.  Just because the levels are "normal" does not mean that there is nothing wrong with it.  You need to be your own best advocate.  I think that many doctors diagnose anxiety when they do not know what they are dealing with.  I always tell them that once everything else is ruled out, then you will be willing to talk about anxiety.  Also trying to stay busy and not spending time concentrating on your throat may help.  good luck with your testing and i hope you can get some answers

I have been to thw ER 3 times in the last month for chest related pain and this lump feeling just started. I'm getting in the a GI doc next week. So hopefully they can figure out what the heck is up. Worst case cancer or best case I Just brused it. But I know how you feel. Its all I can think about. Super annoying:-( well good luck to you. Hope you feel better soon.

I feel your pain. I am also 17 and am constantly unable to sleep because of the pain made  worse by terrible anxiety problems. What your describing definitly sounds like a classic case of reflux. One thing you could try that seems to help me is baking soda water. Most of the time it helps me just enough to the point where I can atleast stand being in my own skin. Mix 1/2 glass of water with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and dissolve it. It dosent taste great but its definitly worth a try. Just make sure to put no more than 1/2 teaspoon because any more may cause gas/nausea (I found that out the hard way) Best of luck!
