Deep tissue massage? Hot stone massagee?

I'm about 5 months in to FS and heard about deep tissue massage today. Has anyone tried this with any decent results?

I have a therapeutic massage person. It's painful but she did release adhesions and all muscles in general. FS really throws your whole body out of whack. If you don't recover in a day or two then it's too soon to do it but I think it's a necessary part of recovery.

Thanks Terry, I think that's one of the hardest parts is giving new things a try and hoping that I'm at the "right stage" for improvement vs more pain because the timing is off.

Yes, massage does help big time. The effects don't last forever, but you will feel better for a while. 5 months in, you're still in for some nasty pain, but any type of heat and massage helped me out a lot. Best of luck to you, Mike.

Thanks Mike, 5 months feels like forever but I'm sure learning different through this forum that the time goes on for what seems like even longer than forever. At least with massage and heat there will hopefully be more movement that I can't do on my own yet.

I'm booked in for a back massage tomorrow. I had a frozen shoulder, which now appears to have morphed into something else and is affecting my neck and other shoulder. It is frozen AND very painful. I'm waiting to see a surgeon (NHS) but I'm not holding my breath!

I had physio (NHS) which was OK and a few private sessions from a local Physio - very good, but expensive.

I'm going to see one of two beauty therapists in the village who specialise in different types of massage. They are not 'medically' trained but they are very good at getting rid of the knots and tensions that build up when you are holding yourself awkwardly due to pain (and making the pain worse!)

I go in like Quasimodo and come out with a spring in my step.cheesygrin Can't wait! I'd say ,yes, go for it.

BTW it can hurt at first, but worth it for the results.

I'll take the spring back in my step please!! Thanks for the input I'm hoping to get an appt next week sometime.

I've had several massages.  They are like magic for my FS.  The girl that does mine knows all about it and hits all the hot spots, including one under the armpit that I never even knew was a trouble spot!!  It loosens up my scapula (the shoulder blade) and seems to help things for about a month.  Since my insurance won't pay for it, I have to pay for it myself, but its worth the expense.  Sleepless nights are not.  I have done months of PT and that hasn't even come close to the relief I get from massage.

Ok, I'm going for it then! One more thing to try as many of us have done but it sounds like this is a good treatment in general. Thanks for your thoughts!

Well I had my massage this afternoon and it was like someone had taken a sack of coal off my back! It won't last long, but it is heavenly while it does!

OH oh! I want to get rif of my 'sack of coal' too! lol (Sooooo glad you felt a little better.)

... Seriously, do you think it helped Bobbysgirl?

Oh yes! I wish I could afford to have one every week. I could do with one right now, had a terrible day - both shoulders AND my neck.sad

Agreed Bobbi!! I am hoping that with continued massage I will hav continued improvement. She explained that our muscle memory only knows how to be tight and contracted right now and it needs to be retrained.

I'm hoping to go weekly but that does get expensive. When I think of how much I spent on PT without any lasting results it kind of makes me crazy but I'm willing to try for a short bit and then decide if the investment is worthwile.

Did the massage help anyone long-term? I am considering the massage. Had this condition about a year now, so any thoughts about massage are gladly accepted. (I am apprehensive to say the least because everything is so darn sore.)  Thank you.

      Hi Mary,

I have had 2 massages now. One last Fri and one today and I actually slept thru the night for the first time!! I also felt "odd" after the first massage but I realized it was the first time those muscles had been stretched and relaxed in a long time. After today's I actually could move my arm higher straight up than I ever have. This woman works really hard on the scapular something muscle under the armpit and I haven't had anyone do that before. It really loosens up the point on the top front of your shoulder that is so tight and sore (for me at least) , this is where all the muscles converge in the shoulder I learned.

The hot stone is some specialty training that she has and it's amazing. When it's super painful for her to massage with her hands (the ice pick feeling), she starts with the stones and does some tapping and it loosens the muscles up right away. Good luck to you as you search for anwers, I'm hoping this continues to work for me as nothing else has so far!
