I have clubbed fingers and toes. I have had the following test which were inconclusive; blood tests, chest x-ray, heart ultra-sound and lung function test. I cannot remember when my fingers became like they are or if they were like that since a young age. I have asthma since a young age, and no other health problems. No one in my family has these symptoms. Please can you advice. Thanks.

Clubbed finger nails are normally a sign of pulmonary issues, so the asthma could tie in, but it can occur with no underlying cause. How bulbous are the ends of your fingers and toes? The main thing to relax about is that all the tests you had are inconclusive. Just one thing do you have any bowel issues? Apparently inflammatory bowel disease can result in clubbing. Clubbing is thought to occur by increased ciriculation to digits, vasodilation of the small blood vessels.

There isn't always a reason for the clubbing, and it sounds to me like you have had all the boxes ticked. You appear to be in good health. If you really are concerned then I would advise getting specialist advice, but otherwise try not to worry.

Hi! I'm curious if you ever notice any changed to your fingers, like sometimes more swollen and sometimes less. Mine seem to feel more swollen in heat.

This could be me! I have the same clubbed fingers. My friends first noticed them about four or five years ago. I don't remember if I had them before. I'm in my early twenties now. They call me the EXACT same thing (alien fingers!) I don't know if it's asthma, but I have been having wheezing problems since birth. But I don't have any other glaring symptoms. No permanent coughing, no blood, no frequent breathlessness. Right now I'm breathing just fine.
I was randomly browsing on the Internet today and got freaked the crap out. I haven't even gone for a diagnosis yet. I'm hoping against hope that it isn't some fatal lung or heart disease...

Same boat man.. Went to the doctor cause I got a concussion ... She looked at my fingers and asked if they have always been that way.. I said they have been and its nothing new... I smoked when I was younger ... I have 0 health problems I eat well and I'm in the gym 7 days a week... Now I have to go for blood work and a cheat exam ... Seen odd to me

hey dude, i'm in the same boat althoufh my doctor didnt send me for any scans. how did you get on with your blood work etc?

Hi, i'm 25 and notcied i had clubbing since i was about 18/19, and i have pictres of when my fingers were 'normal from earlier years, so i went the Doctor but he wasnt concerned enough to send me for scans or investigate this further. was wondering if you ever did receive a diagnosis of some sort?

my son is 22 yo. At first i thought he had weird looking fingers so i thought it was rheumatoid arthritis, so i seached it up and found clubbed fingers. i asked him to go to our family doctor and she assured me he has no cancer. As it turns out he has no arthritis either. He went to the doctor for a follow up and so i asked the doctor to inspect his fingers again which she did. She assured me again that he has no cancer based on his age and his overall health. Sent him for bloodwork and everything checks out. But the internet cautions are pretty scary about clubbed fingers. I know it's possible to occur for no reason or could be inherited. His dad's fingers are similar but his dad's nails don't curve as badly and his fingers are not as bulbuous. I'm afraid they are missing something. Any updates for you?

yes scary indeed. I have not done any more tests since creating this post. I should go to a specialist. Atleast his fingers were similar to his dad's, however in my case no one has clubbed fingers except me in my family. Which leaves me thinking has anything been missed.
